Its almost 5 year old model now, they need a refresh with usb c charging adding.

Yeah they do need to refresh it!

I've got one of these, and its still brilliant - the form factor is great - but I'd question the value at £160 now (I think it was about that price when I bought it a few years ago, but I also used the 20% trade-in to make it cheaper - presume you can still do that)

The current paperwhite models have the "warm" lighting that used to make this unique + they have a USB-C port for charging, while this is still stuck with microUSB. All this really has left to set it apart is the physical page turn buttons (and the form factor which makes it nicer for one-handed holding) As there's currently an offer for a 16Gb Paperwhite for over £50 less money here I think that'd probably be the better choice.

A sign the new one’s finally on the way?!

I absolutely love mine. I’ve got the latest Paperwhite model as well, but the physical page turn buttons on the Oasis just make it the best e-reader experience for me.
I think the next Kindle will be a colour model; if it keeps the buttons and adds USB C then it might tempt me!

It's by far and away the best form factor... But I'd begrudge buying it without USB C at this point. We have old and new paperwhites plus a voyage and an Oasis and I'd go Oasis every time!

Tried my Dad's touchscreen only Kindle and decided that physical buttons to turn pages like my 4th gen kindle were a must - and this was the only Kindle option.

3 years on and I'm still happy with the Oasis. Really nice ergonomics make it easy to read one handed and the battery seems to go forever.

8GB version is likely fine for print media use, Audio book listeners might find it limited.

Using Caliber Ebook manager to convert books I own from Humble Bundles has been highly useful, and HUKD has supplemented my library with a bunch of cheap/free books

It's a lot of.money, but in my opinion worth it if you read a lot

Audio book, does this play audio books?

do they still do trade-in? I bought mine years ago, timed it for a sale, combined with TCB (a rare amazon TCB) and I previously bought a broken kindle for £5 from Ebay that I traded in, not only did they give me a kindle discount for the trade-in but a 10 quid Amazon voucher as well. And the discount was applied to the full price not the sale price!
    paulj48's avatar
they give 20% trade in but you can only use the 20% discount once they have your device for inspection.

Just as a heads-up, there seem to be a fair amount of new Kindle Scribes on eBay. I managed to get one for £210. I wanted something a little bigger for reading programming books, the writing part is just a nice bonus.

I know it's £40 extra, but I think it's worth it, especially if you are a big reader

Everything about the scribe is better but one thing - no physical buttons which I was gutted about when it was released.

got this from cex for 110. happy with this model. boox does android ones with appstore support such as kindle, kobo etc.
  10. Paul_S77's avatar
Do these have a support expiry date for security updates etc like general android devices?

    Know when?

I guess possibly slightly less of a risk on an eraser still useful to know (edited)

I love mine but at low battery the screen pulses ever so slightly when the screen at it's warmest.

Don't use it when it's low battery then? I've charged mine like once every 4 months lol
