Same for me. I traded an old Kindle and used the 20% discount a couple of months later when the Paperwhite was last on offer. The discount was automatically taken at checkout so I bought for £80. One thing I did note when I initially traded my old device, the 20% discount has an expiry date on it and doesn't last forever. If it doesn't work for anyone, then I would guess that it just expired.

Yeah they make them and people buy them. They are great when you see them in person. The ‘paper-like’ technology in the screen makes it actually look like paper rather than a bright reflective screen. Sure a tablet could display a book and also do a million other things, but they also need charging every day or 2. These last months at a time have literally zero eye strain and emit zero ‘blue light’ which has been proven to disrupt sleep patterns (so no good for reading in the evening) They also weigh next to nothing and are waterproof to read in the bath or next to a pool. Granted, £100 does seem like a lot of money, but for avid readers, who will get good use out of them it’s definitely worth it. I read half of my books in physical paper form and half on one of these and enjoy both experiences. :)

But someone with a tablet isn’t posing to look cool on the train or bus? I once sold my Kindle to read on the tablet app instead and even with the light as low as possible and with dark mode on I would get headaches after a while. My Kindle never leaves the house.

Pfff, I read books on my 50'' TV (annoyed)

If this is the trade in scheme, I had a different experience. Traded in my Paperwhite and used the discount when the Oasis was last on offer. Not saying it still definitely works but this was a couple of months ago. Discount for applied at checkout IIRC.

Seems it's getting a price drop at most places, this is £5 cheaper than Amazon if you prefer not supporting them.

What's better about this over the paper white?

The_Rocksta

I think the only thing that will be worth it is usb-c. I bought one a year ago when it dropped to this price and hesitated as I thought a new one would be around the corner. The problem is if you think like that you’ll never buy anything. The Oasis is a great kindle.

Radec

Ive heard the battery life is a bit rubbish while the device is indexing, but once its all sorted it should be longer lasting than the paperwhite. im undecided if to buy. i want the oasis but i have that worry of buying, and then amazon announcing a new one with features that are amazing

The_Rocksta

The best thing to do is turn airplane mode on at every opportunity. Wifi kills the battery on these devices so much faster. Since I’ve been doing that I’ve been getting so much more life out of the battery.

leejay

Yep did exactly the same....got a replacement no different...i think its do with bigger screen and more led......apart from the battery life it’s fantastic.

Drop down in the usual price , hopefully helps someone

No longer available … now it’s £ 229.99

It looks like it gone up in price. Just after ive sent them my Kindle to them... I wonder if CS will honour the £184.99 price

Gorskar

Yeah I guess that could happen. Most of these amazon deals last around a week, so you'd hopefully be OK, but it will get discounted again the next time prime day comes around if you do miss it. (and emailing customer services may help too)

Gorskar

You get a discount code added to your account (after they receive the trade in) that will be automatically applied to your new kindle order when you place it. That does mean you'll have to wait until that happens before placing the new order (unless you can persuade CS to give you the discount early?)

I would also like to know how this works .ie: what if the oasis goes up in price while they are apraising my traded in paperwhite. I can send it off to them tomorrow , but they are saying they are currently experiencing delays in processing trade ins.

But the kindle app does allow you to highlight and take notes? And then you can also review said notes anytime seperately. Sure, pen support would be useful.

AnonUser1108

Is this worth it? Can you highlight, add notes & see definitions? Is 8gb enough?

AnonUser1108

Where did you buy Kobo, don't see any stock on Amazon for some reason. Is it the one with the buttons?

Yeah here's hoping it gets processed quickly, mine took about 4/5 days so they're quite quick on a turn around.

NibblyPig

Thanks man. UPS shows my trade in was delivered yesterday (25th march) at 9am. Still showing in my trade in status as Item Not Yet Received. I hope it gets processed today because I get a feeling this kindle deal won't be around for long.

dilzo

Hey guys just a quick heads up, it's back on sale again if you still have the discount :D

freyabo

Deal back on for the Oasis. The free Kindle Unlimited offer doesn’t seem to work with the trade-in discount

You can, but I wouldn’t recommend it - these are only suited to ebooks. PDFs are better read on a tablet.

ns38

Thanks for the response...think I will make the jump!

Alihadian

Are these good for reading PDF documents (not Kindle books), such as research articles? Is it easy to transfer PDFs to the device?

Gorskar

It was £159 on prime day. (which I missed unfortunately) But amazon have said that black Fri discounts won't be lower than prime day, so the max they'd discount it is to £159. However I think at this point we have to assume that this is the discount we're getting. If you want it, I'd order it (maybe set the delivery day for Tuesday just in case it does get further discounted to save having to send back if it does drop by another tenner) I got it a few weeks ago when it was at this price. Used the trade in deal on an ancient paper white so it was pretty cheap overall. Its a lovely device. The screen is way nicer (that extra inch helps a lot, as does the additional leds and auto dimming + warmlight) also a lot quicker than my old one! Note though the battery is disappointing. Lasts maybe a week with regular use. With the old paperwhite that was months. Charges quick though. If you can live with the battery then it's well worth it. If you're not in a rush and want better battery you might want to wait for the rumoured 2021 paperwhite which should also have the warmlight.
