Logs aren't all that cheap you can get bags from places like this (they were about £5 a year ago)
    Morrisons £8
    Tesco £8
    The Range £8.49
It's far more economial to buy a "Bulk Load" from a saw mill etc you can google logs but you will need to store them and want that many, probably not what you want to here but hope it helps.

Buy it, fill it with nice looking rustic logs, and wind a set of twinkly led lights around it.
Will look very nice and your neighbours will be able to enjoy their summer evenings too, without them having to bring the washing in off the line and seal all of their windows against smelly smoke. jobs a good un!

You sound like my father in law, who always moans about barbeques "when people have a perfectly good stove indoors".

There's something exciting and primal about having fires that can't be matched with fairy lights. Hence why people still use candles when they have a perfectly good light on the ceiling if they want to do anything primal later.
