I have been a fan of Mercusys budget network components for a while - particularly their WiFi extenders (which just work) and their unmanaged Gigabit switches.

Mercusys is owned by TP-Link who frankly, have been responsible for some real wobbly products in the past, but Mercusys (in my experience) is starting to shrug off their parent's reputation.

At this price point, most of the PoE switches are either PoE on four of the ports and/or up to 100Mbs - rather than Gigabit. This one is a Gigabit switch, with PoE on 7 of the ports (the 8th port not requiring it, because it is the uplink).

There are a few additional features - that may be appropriate for some more demanding use cases, such as the prioritisation on the uplink port and port isolation etc.

Note: If you don't know what PoE is (sending Power Over Ethernet for remotely connected devices) then you probably don't have a need for this, just buy one of their non PoE switches (which are excellent in any case) but those who have a use case, will immediately spot that this is quite a good price for a product with the listed capabilities.

Planning on upgrading my home security to POE 4k cameras (3-4 of them), would this suit this purpose?

30W max per port - 40W total - so depends on the power draw of the cameras.

I'm considering this, I have a weird problem with 24 port TP-link rack mounted switch. Every month or so it will conk out. Not sure why, but seems to have an issue, it stops any internet or local network ability and nothing is available. It resolves itself after an hour or sometimes less. It happens once a month but sometimes a few times a month. Can't be sure what it is, but feel like it needs to be replaced. I know its the switch because connecting to the BT router directly things are fine. Anyway, i have a few POE Ubiquiti devices, might just put those on this.

As you have a few ubiquiti devices why dont you get some unifi switch - even the usw lite or flex range would do the trick? (edited)
