Just think of all the haulage firms that are still been ripped off with the price of diesel compared to petrol it's an absolute joke

I'm a truck driver. £5-6 hundred quid in fuel a day. Multiply by xx trucks they got, you can imagine the pressure on transport companies.

This is my mum's local garage and I always fill my tank when I visit. It's a family business. If the little guys can do it how much profit are the bigger chains making?
    madsheep's avatar
I was camping near there in august when they were charging £1.55. Had to fill up there.

A recent article in the 'financial pages' stated that supermarkets have been subsidising 'basics' food price rises, by not passing on the reduction in petrol price to the customer. Swings and roundabouts........

Why is there such a difference between petrol and diesel? Because a significant proportion of the UK's diesel came from Russia. Which has now been phased out. The markets for refined diesel were tighter in supply than that of those for petrol BEFORE the war. Worse now.

What you should pay attention to is that the cost of oil is dropping. Brent was $125 a barrel in June but about $90 today. Considering Europe looks like it is heading straight towards recession you can expect that to fall A LOT more, it looks inevitable. The Kremlin will not be partying. Something like 60 percent of their entire income is oil exports. If oil ends up $50 a barrel by spring then their economy will be a smoking ruin.

And then barrel will be back to 150 in no time ....

The petrol is at a crazy price, plus it's 10% ethanol from plants. You don't get as much to the litre out of it because it contains less energy. In older cars it can rot pipes too. I use super unleaded because it only contains 5% ethanol, costs me £1.73 p a litre.

It's disgraceful that we should be considering this a "deal".

Saffrons Cross, Bodenham is close to this price as well.

Remember these small ones aren't open long hours. And he does run out!

They have no quarms over jerry cans either.

Went up to £1.579, not as good as before (15th Sept 2022) (edited)

The industry mantra has historically been up like a rocket, down like a feather.
Unless it's BP who only seem to price gouge as in so many residential areas they still charge 189.9.
Waitrose in Wyndmondham had 189.9 pence on their signage but at the till charged 189.99 !! I let them know what I thought of this.

Looks like diesel drivers are paying for the cheap petrol. 26p difference..rip off
    HappyShopper's avatar
My thoughts too - problem is, this price disparity between petrol and diesel is now here to stay.
  11. thr0tt's avatar
It’s going to take me a tank of petrol to get there but a deals a deal right ! (edited)
  12. Dan_the_man28's avatar
Still 10p per litre higher than it should be
    AX31's avatar
Honestly. Shut up. Lol. This is so boring now.
  13. campers's avatar
nearly 30p difference between this , a first product , and the diesel thats being made out of leftovers ..
  14. gordo1964's avatar
$1.15 to the £ doesn't help. Oil is sold in $'s so we need Liz T to get the £ up to $1.30. I have total faith.

It’s £1.23p/litre here in Morocco. Your British are being robbed

This is getting batter. I said I would be more comfortable when petrol started at £1.4xxx.

I think there is a little way to go.
  18. paulde2007's avatar
Showing my age but I remember when they said it won't go over £1. Now prices are around 1.70 to 190 for petrol and only expected to increase.

Even with this. Petrol about 13p to 20p depending on efficiency on car. Ouch. But under circumstances its a good deal (edited)

When I first started driving in the 90's it was 50p and I put a fiver in seemingly every morning because I had a long drive. I'd be spending £18 a day these days!

Meanwhile in Hertfordshire...175.9 😡 One letter difference worth 30p per litre, I think not. (edited)

The war has almost nothing to do with the price rises.
  28. Jack_79's avatar
Got to wait for it to be around £1.50 a litre to fill my car up from empty

We paid £1.777 a litre for diesel at Asda, Ashington, Northumbria on Saturday. The cheapest for miles around. Normally prices on the journey over there along the A69 is pretty much comparable with Dumfries but this holiday trip, it was more expensive by 12p per litre at least. Unleaded was being sold at £1.637.
For comparison, the price at Tesco, Dumfries for the past 10 days is unleaded £1.639 and diesel £1.779. (edited)

Saw 154.9 in Datchet yesterday if anyone’s in the area. Beats the 163.9 around me currently.
  31. Nicolas's avatar
When is diesel going to come down
  32. danceswithhorses's avatar
Am i correct in thinking there are no diesel refineries in the UK, so that is also a factor in keeping diesel expensive ?
    20teatime10's avatar
I believe about 40-50% of diesel is refined in the UK.
  33. alastairmarkdavies's avatar
If a little independent garage with very little buying power can do it for this price, why can't everyone else? Just shows that the rest are ripping us off,
    tintowellfan's avatar
Yep, I live in the sticks in south central Scotland. Nearest petrol station is in a one horse town and petrol today is 155.9 pence Next best price is 10 pence a litre more expensive. All the supermarkets,Esso, BP and Shell are all taking the pee.
Anybody in Lanark/Biggar area, just a heads up for Tinto Garage in Symington, 155.9 for unleaded.
