Is it just me or has PS5 been the most boring generation of them all

    Agreed

Seems like games on Ps4/xbox one onwards has been great in that games coming forwards largely look like they can be scaled up or down more easily to fit on whatever hardware box weak or strong. This might partly have been one of the key things that's facilitated the extensive cross gen support as we've been seeing (even almost 4 years into the console generation). But then this same cross gen support has probably meant that people probably might never feel compelled enough to adopt the newer hardware (even though the COVID related stock issues have finally resolved).

It doesn't feel like there's enough new gen exclusives coming to PS5 and Xbox series. For me, it still feels like the current gen consoles are basically a second round of iterative "pro" consoles upgrades on top of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, rather than a standalone new generation. Not saying I want an artifical stop to releases on the older consoles that can still handle current gen games, though (I haven't jumped to current gen yet, lol!). Plus with the rising costs and resources involved with game design, I still can't imagine ever being flooded with games that fully take advantage of current gen hardware's full potential. Any games that do max out will probably just end up playing it safe in many ways, or force dodgey monetisation or other unhelpful practices.

I suppose this isn't the first time we had older gen hardware severely overstaying its welcome. Sega Master System games continued having support well into the Megadrive's life cycle, but maybe that was partly a side effect of the Sega Game Gear (which was being supported around the megadrive era) having so much hardware similarity to the Master system. And also Sega's aggressive targetting of gamers in developing countries at that time with the master system being their more affordable option.

Good luck when the parcel arrives with a brick in it and Amazon.de refuses to deal with you.

No brick. Read your post history and saw you’d been stung. That’s terrible.
