This would be American plumbing and regulations yes?

Yes, this is for American homes. The vast majority of the skills you'll learn in the book are plumbing in general, but any thing that is to regulation, like their drain to air venting systems will not be the same as the UK.
If it talks about anything being 'to code' or has to be done to a certain standard, you can safely ignore that and go visit plumber forums net where they'll be able to tell you the correct UK standard you need to abide by.

I wouldn't worry too much... you're like the fairies in that nobody knows whether you're actually there or if you'll be here as nobody every sees you !

Great book title though as I often find my plumbers will have 7 jobs on at the same time! Well... and hold the front page, I say 'find' but that's after I've taken him on, even though I've asked him what his availability is like Now that's a book I'd like to read

All I will add, avoid push fits. You simply cannot be a good quality soldered connection.

After half the house was replumbed, the place is practically held up by JG push fits. One advantage I could see was that the pipework is flexible so can be threaded through the flooring spaces without ripping up many boards. But yes these joints can leak if not fitted perfectly.

As my late plumber uncle used to say. A little bit of knowledge is dangerous.

But the knowledge to use a radiator valve key to bleed a radiator to cure a cold radiator saves +£50 call out fee for a plumber to do.

Cheers Boz this should come in handy as I'd accidentally connected my toilet to the hot water system and had hot flushes for a week lol

Good deal.just note if you make any changes and it's not by a tradesperson it could invalidate your home insurance surely

Really need to be careful taking on such jobs yourself. Do a lot of research, watch videos etc. Don't just read a book and think you're a plumber all of a sudden. A lot of people will say it's easy to do this or that but remember they've probably got a lot more experience than you have, and they probably learnt it from someone experienced showing them, not from a book. Just a warning as it might cost you more to fix the problem you've now created than to just get someone to do it properly in the first place. Water, waste etc is not to be played with, just like gas and electricity.
