sorted byWith his full permission I've placed both a Samsung galaxy tag and an Apple Airtag inside his car. Since he left the UK has has has travelled via Brussels, Luxembourg and now Strausbourg. At every location the Samsung tag has beaten the Airtag in terms of regular updates. Added to that the Samsung tag has a one week history of locations where the tag has pinged off of another Samsung phone, so I can even see the main roads/routes he's travelled along each day (within reason). By comparison, the Airtag will only show you the last place it pinged off of an Apple device.
Finally, as far as I'm aware, the Samsung tag doesn't emit a warning beep after 3 days of being separated from the registered owner, as the Apple airtag does as an anti-stalking precaution.
Also, when separated from the registered Airtag owner, the Airtag will usually send a message to the person's phone it is travelling with (whether they are an Android or iPhone user), saying that they are being tracked by an Airtag.
Admittedly this is all very good iro prevent stalking. But in the situation with my son, where he is happy for us to know where he is, the beeping and messages would have been an annoyance to him. To avoid the beeping, I disabled the speaker on the Airtag (thank you Youtube!).
But I think the main takeaway message here, despite what I have read online (which arguably might apply to the US where iPhones are probably more prolific), is the Samsung galaxy tag is outperforming the Apple Airtag in terms of pinging off of other phones in the parts of Europe my son is visiting. I've super impressed with my Smart Tags.
I travel a lot and have these in my bags. Sometimes I have to travel without my luggage but I can always see where the luggage is as so many people have Samsung phones. Through New York, Chicago and San Francisco I've seen detailed tracking of my bags. In Europe even moreso. I feel like in Europe the ground crews are made to have a Samsung phone amongst them.
The price gave me peace of mind and these at this price are a steal. I've ordered another couple and when the price goes back to normal I'll sell the old ones (after some testing of both!
