SONY a7 IV Mirrorless Camera with 28-70 mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
£300 cashback from Sony terms and conditions

Info added by

Sony's a7 mirrorless camera is packed full of technology to help you capture your vision. Its updated processor and state-of-the-art sensor work together to improve image quality in photography and video.

What we love

- The 33 MP Full Frame sensor can capture more light thanks to back illumination – this gives your images more detail and better colour accuracy
- This camera is powered by the flagship BIONZ XR processor – it's lightning fast to make sure your photos and videos are processed without slowing down the camera's performance
- The updated sensor and processor bring amazing improvements to low-light performance – this means you can take beautiful images day and night
- Sony's Real-time subject tracking and Eye Autofocus can keep humans, pets and birds in perfect focus, while you focus on the composition

Good to know

- The camera comes with a versatile 28-70 mm zoom lens, which is great for everyday use
- Thanks to the 5-axis stabilization you can film smoother video, shoot longer focal lengths and capture longer exposures without blur
- The 10-bit 4:2:2 gives you tons of flexibility in the editing room – you can play around with colours, light, and effects without degrading your footage
- Capturing action will be super easy with 10 fps of continuous shooting with autofocus on
- The vari-angle screen can twist and turn to suit the way you want to shoot, and you can just tap on your subject to focus
- With dual media slots you can use two memory cards at the same time and keep shooting even if one fills up
- The USB Type-C port supports Power Deliver for lighting fast charging
- The camera is made of magnesium alloy which makes it robust and lightweight – great for outdoor shoots

Expand your creative horizons with Imaging Edge Desktop and Imaging Edge Mobile . The Imaging Edge Desktop PC application lets you control and monitor shoots directly from your PC screen, preview photos, and develop RAW/HEIF data into high-quality photos for delivery. Imaging Edge Mobile applications use the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® functionality of the α7 IV to provide a wide variety of convenient shooting and sharing functions.
16275459411683426216.jpgNewly developed 33.0MP1 back-illuminated CMOS image sensor
The full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor delivers outstanding speed and superb image quality. The use of copper wiring contributes to higher transmission speeds and faster AD conversion, while fast sensor readout enables 10-bit 4:2:4K recording at up to 60p . The sensor also provides improved colour reproducibility, low-noise performance at all sensitivities, 15-stop dynamic range on stills, and increased AF precision and focal stability
15881884001683426257.jpgBIONZ XR™ image processor for up to 8x processing speed
The BIONZ XR engine, also used in the flagship α1 and α7S III models, provides up to an 8x increase in processing speed. The engine concentrates real-time processing of AF, image recognition and image quality adjustment to minimise processing latency, for greatly increased movie and still processing power. User interface, network, and file management processing is distributed in order to deliver fast response regardless of real-time processing load.
8374592671683426295.jpgBeautiful image rendering with low noise
Visible benefits of the powerful new 33.0MP sensor and engine go beyond mere numbers. They include soft, natural-looking human skin textures, a stunning level of detail in landscapes and scenery, and better colour reproduction, with higher subjective resolution resulting from improved algorithms. The standard sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 is expandable to ISO 50-204800 for stills and ISO 100-102400 for movies, with low-noise performance throughout
12163519061683426343.jpg
Smoother gradation rendering with 10-bit HEIF recording
The α7 IV offers HEIF (High Efficiency Image File)still-image encoding, in addition to conventional RAW and JPEG. Smooth 10-bit gradations provide more realistic reproduction of skies and portrait subjects, and the use of 10-bit depth minimises degradation of image quality when editing. HEIF still images recorded in HLG mode can be played back on a compatible BRAVIA 4K TV, via an HDMI connection, to display images with an extraordinarily wide dynamic range.

Not a good deal with that budget lens. Can't imagine anyone buying the excellent A7IV to use with such a low quality optic. You can get the body only for about £2099 with cashback from John Lewis with 2-year warranty or Ffordes for £2089. The Curry's deal is effectively charging you £200 for that lens, and having owned one years ago can attest to its awfulness.

Is it worth getting a cheap SLR or is it better just to use your smartphone? Do you have any recommendations for the bestest, cheapest option?

I have a bunch of canon EF/EFS glass. Would i be able to use a converter seamlessly with this?
    AAddict's avatar
Yes, the Sigma MC-11 generally works best for adapting Canon glass. (Some adapted lenses focus better than others so a little research is best before jumping in.

Completely agree, not really much of a deal this given the used market is flooded with this awful lens. Buy the camera somewhere cheaper and get a lens you'll actually want to use!

33mp is a bit on the low side for an expensive camera when mobile phones like the S23 ultra offer 200mp.

This 33mp will wipe the floor of the 200mp s23 when examined closely

    Love this camera.

Never had this lens. I'd only recommend this lens if you have literally no self respect, though.

    Tamron 35-150 is the GOAT.

Some very good advice here, but I would just add that you should concentrate more on the lenses, rather than the camera - you will upgrade your camera if you get into this great hobby, but your lenses will generally remain with you. Buy second-hand from shops if you're new (rather than ebay), and consider going the micro four thirds route, due to size, and cost. Lots of really good helpful videos on ebay as well. Good luck!

Your advice was sounding so great up until the point you mentioned Micro Four Thirds! ;-) I started off in M43 but couldn't help but think it was a dying format for anything but video. Now that Olympus has offloaded to OM systems and Panasonic seem to be concentrating more on full frame I'm even more of that opinion. Where's the G10? GX10? Sadly I think it's as good as dead....

so just to check? i can get the cash back from very after using the 20% code for the credit account payment?
    dkl_uk's avatar
Check it's not 10%. It depends on what department the camera is under.
