Bought one used it for half hour then sold it was hit and miss even with 5ghz 250mb broadband and the lack of not being able to stream YouTube or Spotify from ps5 no Bluetooth either might as well buy a backbone which you can pick up for a quarter of the price
    boulder1's avatar
    To counter!!

Backbone is definitely cheaper, but I hated it/latching a secondary device to my phone. It felt generic and cheap.

It's not without it's caveats. The lack of proper Bluetooth is ridiculous, and I'm hoping they realise this at some point and patch it like the switch did.
If watching YouTube/Spotify through your ps5 is important to you, then yep this won't be for you.

It's for people who want the most accurate feeling ps5 experience when away from their ps5, on a dedicated device. It's niche, but it's been perfect for me!

if anyone is interested in Pulse Explore Earbuds
52816963-wU2Ax.jpgTGC has them at £179.95 so using the newsletter sign-up code would make them £161.95 (+£4 back in Reward Points) I think that may be the best deal currently for them thegamecollection.net/playstation-pulse-explore-earbuds-ps5 (edited)

    £160 for headphones lol

1799 Reward Points are worth £4.49 to spend on anything they sell without restriction (within 364 days)

Great price, but this one was a miss for me and I returned it. Didn’t run into any latency issues but found it a bit underwhelming, especially the lack of bluetooth.

I upgraded my internet and bought a new headset, prefer the old one but convenience is ace for me. I work away in the week, use portal and still use it on weekends. PS5 is basically a server that hasn’t been connected to a screen for a few months. (edited)

why is anyone buying this garbage
    Gamblor64's avatar
Better off getting a steam deck and using chiaki4deck app to stream ps5. Then you've actually got access to the whole world of PC gaming as well. Plus, ya know, you can actually do simple stuff like connect to wifi networks that require browser authentication unlike the Portal lol.
  6. ashleebolton's avatar
Get a backbone for a third of the price and use your phone, no WiFi restriction, play anywhere, I play in my work car park, never had an issue
    JR_SmiffEsq's avatar
Done the same and added a psp library lol

I've had one just after release day, Loving it of what I played of it. Can take it upto bed in another room, and play hour or something, without being near to my PS5, or around the house. Just needs a stable connection. It's really comfortable, just like holding a PS5 controller. The screen is nice and clear for an LCD, and big enough to in my opinion.

One thing I can't get working is when I'm trying to connect it to my hotspot, while I'm away from the house. I'm using EE Network, and it just want connect at all, even trying with a VPN (Nord). That's with my older 4G phone. I've recently got a new , my first 5G phone a few weeks ago, but I've not tried it on there yet. Probably be the same. Xiaomi 13T Pro 5G my new one.
    Scott_McCarter_'s avatar
I used to have the same issue with EE and the official PS Remote Play app - I found a solution on Reddit EE Remote play. (Not sure how advisable downloading these kinds of unsigned configs from the internet is, but I tried it and it sorted the issue for me)

Had this for a while and used it once or twice, just been gathering dust. Make sure you know you’ll use it before you buy.

    Wanna sell it for cheap
  9. Y_G's avatar
Been fun the last 6 months watching all the people with crap internet take an L trying to use the Portal
    Alan_Wake's avatar
How have you been watching them all?
  10. lucas.chatterton's avatar
Imagine playing warzone on this tripe
    Paramvir's avatar
Wouldn’t recommend as it has some latency but single player games you don’t notice any issues at all
  11. bruvafromanuvamuva's avatar
What’s the recommended broadband bandwidth/latency for a decent experience?
    orwinian's avatar
It's depends mainly on router. I had trouble with my eero mesh, but I now use a tp link ax3000 and had it about a month. Zero latency issues, runs perfectly all over the house. This is on Virgin Media 1gbps.
  12. EverydayImHustling's avatar
Assume this is useless for online FPS games due to the latency?
    mossmanfly's avatar
Yes probably not the best. On a home network you have a latency of about 60ms. Quite easy to test, if you play a game with a timer on the screen, so a racing game is ideal. Hold the Portal up against your TV running the game, take a picture/video and compare the lap/race time. And should see approx 60ms difference.
  13. Ashbeck's avatar
Had this for a few months and use occasionally (still far more than the steamdeck). When I do use, it's great.

Only question I have is how do you use it without unlocking the PS5 first on its lock screen. I'm missing the obvious aren't I?
    heedrick's avatar
Need to leave the ps5 in sleep mode and enable turning on from remote network on the ps5.
  14. yiu's avatar
Apart from the convenience, is this a much better experience than using an iPad with a regular ps5 controller?
    mossmanfly's avatar
Not really. Haptics, and the ease of logging in quicker. But a tablet will give you access to Xcloud, remote Xbox Play and Remote PC play with the right Apps.
  15. stuartc74's avatar
Buy a Switch Lite, not this crap. (edited)

If only u had a clue
  16. cbillson's avatar
My usage case would be, frequently I’m at home and not able to get access to the tv, or if I move the ps5 it would be a bit antisocial. So I’d want this just for the fact it gives me a screen, but with the comfortable ps5 controller- would I likely be disappointed?
    Darthballs's avatar
So you've been grounded and want to still use the PS5 on the sly, I will be speaking to Mr & Mrs Cbillson about this
  17. Tellly's avatar
I loved my PSP & VITA but this is just lazy, they literally cut a DualSense in hand and slapped a screen in the middle.

If rumours are correct Sony have a true successor in the works with the capability to play PS4 and then stream PS5 via cloud streaming. If true I’d be all for it.

Until then my Steamdeck OLED fills my new PSP void.
  18. Redinho's avatar
Honestly why wouldn't you just buy a steam deck ? It'll do the same thing plus much more (edited)
    mango.carrot's avatar
I sold mine when I got an Ally

Had to buy PSPlay though, as the official app didn’t support the controller in the Ally
  19. kyeung's avatar
Just use PS remote play on an Tablet/laptop with your official controller. Very niche product. Won't be surprised if this drops below £150 by end of the year. Many other 3rd party competitions with better screen if you're not fussed about the Sony only controller functions
    lucas.chatterton's avatar
And suffer the worst latency, we will never be able to stream without poor lag.

    Great price. Heat.

Not for me though, concerned with the connectivity to my ps5 despite I have 1gb broadband
    eternalomen's avatar
Why are you looking at playing away from home ?

Iv got 1gb and it plays perfectly fine away from home
  23. SM93's avatar
Just get remote play on a tablet and use the ps5 controller, same thing really
    BabiDealings's avatar
This exactly, much better as you have a separate larger screen and an official Dualsense controller. However the only issue is syncing to the tablet and PS5 simultaneously, you really need to have a dedicated controller for the tablet and the PS5 to avoid the annoyance of switching them.
  24. Mosalah123's avatar
If you want a device like this I would personally picky up a Logitech G cloud on eBay for around the same price.

Great little device and you can use PsPlay which is a much superior remote play app.
  25. MUFCristiano's avatar
If they can add cloud gaming to this, then it becomes a gem. It's still sold well with those who travel often or have to share their gaming tv with family.

My concern is the stick drift. I wish they made it like the dualsense edge that allows you to change the stick, in case of issues. (edited)

"My concern is the stick drift. I wish they made it like the dualsense edge that allows you to change the stick, in case of issues."

Mental they didn't use this idea.
  26. heedrick's avatar
Mine works great on the WiFi and through hotspot. Love not using the TV if someone else wants to watch it. Switch on and away I go continuing from where I left off. Did consider a steam deck but this is considerably cheaper.
  27. RobStevens's avatar
Heat, had this since launch and this thing is incredible.

I've got one and I like it and use it occasionally for various use cases. However it's clearly a v1 device. There's so many improvements that'll make the v2 better. Personally the biggest irritation is the non-adjustable screen angle. It means I have to hold the 'controller' at what feels like an unnatural angle compared to how I hold the regular controller, just so the screen faces me straight-on. It would be good if the screen vs controller angle could be changed.

I'm just glad enough people bought it so that there's likely to be a v2 released. (edited)

No offense but this is the most disappointing product Sony has ever made in a long time (in the gaming side). This is a decent price for the Portal but the Portal itself just isn't worth buying unfortunately.
    noeasywayout's avatar
    Why didnt you like yours?
  30. heedrick's avatar
My only downsides so far with the portal are the annoyance of having to sign in and out to use different accounts and the headphones. I would like a wireless pair but I cannot justify over £100 for a set.

A reminder that if you have used SAVEMORE10 before, it won't work, they changed it to one redemption per user a month or so ago.

You can get a bsp d9 for £30 off AliExpress and use your ipad or tablet as the screen they are good for the price
  34. StevieW0nder's avatar
So much concern trolling in here

Getting closer to the biting point for me . Heat! (edited)
  35. FlyingSquirrel's avatar
For those of you saying get as switch lite. The point of this, is when you share a TV with kids, gf, wife, husband etc... and what to play PS5 games. I expect this like most tablets to stay in the home.
    DuggyDarko's avatar
I'd rather just buy another TV.
  36. gaijintendo's avatar
    Finally, a Wii U 2!
  37. Stephen_Steele872's avatar
Can this be used a just a 2nd controller :/

heard a lot of positivity about this device on TCGS, seems like a great device for a specific use case. I'd love it if Xbox made a similar device.
    steven.johnsonm9G's avatar
I'd imagine there must be a few Android tablets around now that would play Xbox Pass games easily.

    How much???
  40. noeasywayout's avatar
Excellent device.  So easy to just pickup and play anywhere in house/garden.  Found myself able to finally complete games as I can snatch 10 minutes here and there.  I don’t see an issue with it having no bluetooth, I just plug in an old set of wired buds and it sounds fantastic.  I don’t need to be fully immersed playing a game on a handheld screen.
