I am still using my old faithful Asus STRIX 980Ti 6GB.

I don't play much, If I do - it's mostly 5years plus games. Mostly just do data processing and data bases (not graphics) for fun.

I would appreciate suggestions as to possible upgrade. Energy efficiency, general refresh and boost to performance would be my priorities.

Should I upgrade to ARC A750?

Though I like Intels first real attempt at GPU's, they are probably the worst cards to buy if you play older (or less popular) games
If the the games aren't directX 11/12, they tend to run awful. Most driver updates have been to fix newer/more popuar games, so whether they card will run your games well or not might be hit and miss.

You'd be better off spending that sort of money on an RX 6600 or better.

    Sparkle!
    There's name I haven't heard for a while.

Seems the cheapest price at the moment, but if someone doesn't mind buying used you can grab an A770 8GB for £200 from CeX (probably only a couple in stock if you are lucky) -

"In April 2023, Sparkle re-entered the graphics card market, this time producing a set of Intel Arc series graphics cards."
We haven't seen them in a while.

Take the model number away and you have "Sparkle ARC ORC OC"...

Anybody else used to upgrade their PC every 3 years or so as a hobby / enthusiast?

I built my own PC's from around age 14, I am the ripe old age of 39 now. My last PC was bought complete and at the current market rates I doubt I will ever buy another piece of hardware unless my current gen fails.

I would happily use my 3070 for the next 4-7 years if it holds out. I am old so don't need 1000 fps at 4k.

I just find it a little sad, that's all. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Anyway, this seems like a really good deal! If they keep this up, my next card may be from Intel just to show some support.

Intel is low key the only GPU company actually trying to offer value. If they had a model that was faster around £330 mark I would have most likely purchased one.

Intel Battlemage coming next year, here's hoping it's good value, performs well and they have ironed out any driver issues BEFORE they release it.

Went for the 6700XT for the extra RAM but was seriously considering a 750 as the price is a steal.
  8. bargainMcHunter's avatar
Yeh, but does it run GTA5 at high settings?

Does anyone have an opinion on whether to get this or the RX 6600 for £174 for 1080p gaming? Ideally want the card to be as quiet as possible when not in use. Looking at spending around the £200 mark.

    Thanks

I would almost definetly pick the RX 6600. For being cheaper than the ARC card, it still is faster by a good margin in the vast majority of games. It has a lower power draw than the A750 which means it's safe to assume it will run quieter as the cards fans don't have to work as hard. You would also avoid some of the issues that ARC has with some games due to their less than perfect drivers.
