We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.

Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.

The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

Honestly, getting the OLED version for £100 more (if your budget can stretch that far obviously) is absolutely worth it. (edited)

Not yet verified - protonDB suggests it won’t run well…

For anyone that wants to use a handheld deck for lighter pc gaming, rather than heavier gaming (will leave that to the pc), is this still a good option rather than the OLED?

Depends on how you’ll use it. For short casual bursts around the house, this one is fine. If you want to play for extended periods away from a power outlet, the OLED is worth the extra.

The OLED version is a big upgrade and the bigger battery makes it the best handheld out there. However I still think Steam Deck 2 will come and I I think Valve will release Steam OS for all.

Steam os is already available for all

Sunshine / moonlight is the best piece of software I have installed in any device in years. The Steam Deck is ok for trips, but if playing via streaming at home (if you have good internet connection speed) it makes the Steam Deck an absolute monster

I hear so much love for Sunshine/Moonlight but Parsec never gets a mention. I play on my 17" 3500U laptop, streaming from my desktop over ethernet and I'm really impressed; it's really painless. Are Sunshine/Moonlight really worth the extra faff?

Also, I'm still dithering about the handheld PCs. I think if you've got laptop(s) and decent gaming PC then the use argument thins down. But I have no time to play my massive backlog anyway, and my kid has a nice Lenovo gaming laptop anyway.
Still long for an OLED screen tho.

I bought the 512GB Version from Steam directly and it kept glitching and restarting. Had to return it because it was not allowing me to play Steam Verified games… RIP

I recommend the ROG Ally if you can find one for cheap. I paid £370 for a Currys refurb. The size and screen is so much better than the OG deck.
