Ready for cross country (XC) racing, the Suntour XCR32 LO DS Boost Coil Fork features 32mm STKM steel stanchions with magnesium lower legs, a coil spring and disc brake rotor compatibility.

These cross country (XC) forks are equipped with 32mm STKM steel stanchions, which makes them incredibly tough when handling the knocks and bumps associated with cross-country riding. With magnesium lower legs, the weight is kept low without sacrificing any strength. Another highlight is their coil spring with preload adjuster, which delivers amazingly smooth shock absorption and feel as you tackle everything that the terrain throws at you. SR Suntour has also kitted out this version with Speed Lockout (LO), which means that their travel can be locked for easier climbing and minimised energy loss when riding on flat surfaces. Coming complete with disc brake compatibility, these offer reliable and consistent front-end suspension performance at an affordable price.

Boost Axle Spacing and Coil SpringEngineered for the demands of modern XC riding, this fork features Boost axle spacing for a stronger, stiffer and a more efficient front-end suspension setup. Benefitting from a high-quality coil spring, it absorbs the vibrations and bumps from the XC course and allows you to enjoy a smoother ride.

Disc Brake Compatible Suspension ForkReady for fast and fun rides, this model is kitted out with 160mm postmount disc brake rotor compatibility (180mm max). This allows you to use it along with your favourite hydraulic disc brakes and benefit from powerful, consistent braking performance as well as a controlled front end as you charge across the XC course.

A terrible fork at the original £200 claimed retail price but an amazing fork for about £25 If you can make use of it of course.

I think many mountain bikes have 1.5" head tubes. Seems common on cheaper Carrera bikes so can use a suitable headset and if you have a bolt thru front hub which is non boost you can get non boost to boost adapters. There isn't a lot of difference in height between a 26" and 27.5" wheel. You could do a mini-mullet and have different tyre sizes front and back to adjust geometry/angle slightly. Tyre sizes are given by height not width so a tyre size given as 27.5x2.2" is 584mm +(2x 56mm) which is 696mm circumference which works out at about the same circumference as a 26"x2.7" tyre which I don't think is available but that calculation means you could do 27.5" 2.0" tyre at the front and 26"x2.50 at the rear to have even height and not have a mullet effect at all. As for travel it doesn't mean a 130mm and 100mm travel fork are different lengths overall your have to compare the full specification and dimensions.

This won't be a high performance fork but its a competent fork that is very strong and a huge step up from the XCT or XCE forks you see on many entry level mountain bikes and a step up from most XCM forks. Some people prefer coil forks to air forks for general use.

As ever you need to think about your riding. Most people don't need suspension forks for general riding with light off-road use. They add weight and more failure points to your bike and add an extra level of maintenance. They can also make cycling less efficient although this fork does have a lockout to make climbing more efficient it may still overall be adding over 1kg of weight to the bike compared to a rigid fork.

Anyway still seems a great deal to me and a great upgrade option for many bikes.

A quick google shows this boost hub at £12.59 with free postage at £20. Looks like a 5% off code is on the site too maybe a better code is available if you search. A possible option for those who are capable of replacing the front hub of their front wheel. The small offset difference means I would of thought you could re-use your existing spokes on a standard 100mm wheel. I haven't checked this though and it depends on length of your existing spokes if they are towards the shorter length of the tolerance for the lacing maybe not. It's centrelock though so you either need centrelock rotors or use of an adapter. Also its for 32 spoke rims but most are I find. You only really find 28 hole rims on bikes with low weight limits like the Decathlon mountain bikes or very lightweight builds.

    No it won’t fit (edited)

How do i work out if this will fit my bike? I have a mid 80s hard rock.
    namnam's avatar
It won't. This fork is tapered. Your headtube will be straight.

Surely at this price it is a huge loss for Suntour. So a very unsuccessful design for Suntour which has resulted in huge discounting. I think Suntour would have already scaled back how many such forks they import into the UK, maybe other markets coil forks at around £200 are more acceptable.

Can anyone inform me if this will fit my bike? My bike is a Voodoo Marasa, 2018, it is a hybrid bike with hydraulix disc brakes, this could be a nice upgrade as current bike has rigid fork
    bonzobanana's avatar
For a hybrid bike it would be more of a downgrade. Putting more basic mountain bike forks on a hybrid bike isn't really beneficial. The bike will be heavier and slower and you then have the maintenance to do etc. I personally can't see the point of it myself for such a bike but looking online your bike likely does have a 44mm headtube which is what is required to take the 1.5" steerer at the bottom of the forks. You need a headset that matches the fork i.e. suitable for a 1.5" steerer at the bottom but a 1-1/8" steerer at the top plus you need a boost compatible front wheel if not already equipped with boost which it won't be as a hybrid I think.

This is really an upgrade to a mountain bike that has a very low end front fork, unbranded, zoom or much lower Suntour fork for those who take their bike properly off-road although not the really difficult technical trails that require a better fork really.
