maybe a stupid question - but does this kind of thermometer provide a quicker read than this equivalent? amazon.co.uk/gp/…R4/

Only just received the thermometer today so not tried it yet but from the reviews it seems to take a couple of seconds for a read

I bought one of these the last time it was on offer as the two Thermopens I have that cost £50 each work intermittently.

These are better than the Thermopens and less than 20% of the price. They give accurate and quick readings and I like the on/off button.

    Highly recommended

Never heard of anyone having issues with a Thermapen before.

This does look v good value but I love my Thermapen and like that it's made in the UK

ha - according to 3 Camels it's never been above £12 over the last year!

Still not stopped me from purchasing though as I like the backlit functionality and seems to be the cheapest around with that

This has been around this price for weeks, even more! Only reason I didn't buy it, was because I found my BBQ buddy one.

Another stupid question, my current one takes around 10-12 secs to come to a stable reading. So for example, if my meat was 80C, the BBQ buddy would go up in increments till it reached 80C. So it would read 40c, 43c, 48c, 56c, 62c ect.. until it reached 80c. It doesnt give the true temp instantly.

Are all of these like mine? (edited)

What's the calibration step all about. How can ice water which surely itself varies in temperature give it a calibration temperature? Does it not work until you do that?
