Fantastic price although I'd find an 80 mile drive to Lake Buena Vista / ID a bit tiring after a transatlantic flight. That's $100 each way in an Uber (assuming they'll drive you that far). By comparison it's a 20 min $40 each way trip from MCO. Gatwick flight prices to MCO are about £120 dearer with BA, but that does include a23kg cabin bag, max 56x45x25cm plus an underseat bag like a hand bag / small rucksack (40x30x15cm). TUI allow you a 10kg 55x40x20cm cabin bag only. You could probably fit warm weather wear & gadgets into two carry on cases and with the cheaper transfer options BA may be a better bet.

Worth noting Melbourne is 1hr 15 from international drive area

Flew there in october and was through immigration, had bags and in the taxi in under 30mins. Last time we went to mco it was 2-3hours

Spent some time in Melbourne last year. Lovely little town and beautiful, quiet beaches. Orlando is great too for all the parks but if you want something different Melbourne is also cool.

Food prices in the UK seem to have risen that much, so just staying put is eye-wateringly expensive. I'd rather buy expensive groceries in sunny Florida that grey Britain.

Good price but only book if your fully vaccinated they won’t let Djokovic in so they definitely won’t let you in.

Unvaccinated can now go the the States. They’ve recently ditched that rule

I’m flying into Miami international in 3 weeks time with virgin.
paid £360pp for a return flight.
    guvnor's avatar
We flew into Miami in November and immigration was an absolute nightmare, queues of nearly 2.5 hours.

I did MAN-MCO in September last year for something like £220. As other members have said, it's about 1hr10 from International Drive (we stayed at the Four Points, Sheraton). Airport was fine though the flight from MCO-MAN was delayed 9 hours. Yep, 9 hours. I claimed compo for £520 which is the maximum for that fare I believe. The staff told me delays like that are expected and usual since it was a fairly new route.

I flew into Melbourne airport last year, much nicer experience than Orlando International. Landed and out of the airport in less than 15 mins. Drive to Orlando was only around 1 hour.
    Openttdbeer's avatar
    That wasn't my experience.

It was 50+ minutes just to get luggage.

Only car left in the class I booked was one that was worn out and had a scratched windscreen (Alamo), take it or take a class below - ended up getting a partial refund. But no choice of cars like MCO, you just get what you're given. At MCO there are rows and rows and you pick one.

Immigration queue was 20+ minutes. (edited)

    Bargain.
Melbourne is a quiet and easy airport for passengers. (edited)

Don't book with TUI, they aren't the company they once were. Terrible customer service, so many horror stories.

TUI longhaul is a joke but might be worth it at the right price.

They are incredibly stingy with any extras, food, drink etc.

If I had a choice I would not fly with them again.

Also you will likely not get a seat with your partner. (edited)

“Also you will likely not get a seat with your partner”.

Do you know if this benefit is included as standard?

TUI's website is extremely bad. A young adolescent can set up a better functioning website. They are very lucky to still be in business. I think they still rely on brick and mortar stores they still keep in different cities and towns in the UK (edited)
  14. Openttdbeer's avatar
Having flown with Britania/Thomson/TUI loads over the years to Florida I'd happily say after last year going, never again. Especially now they use an airport that's so far away from where you want to be, plus car hire options at Melbourne are rubbish!

Plane was in a disgusting state, food was awful, and the staff were rude and disinterested. I've been on much better Ryanair and Easy Jet flights! (edited)
    cdm1's avatar
I thought car hire was the same as any other airport when we flew in last year but ive already posted I probably wouldnt use them again
  15. cdm1's avatar
Did this trip last year with Tui, long delays both ways with no compensation as just landed within the three hours as made up time . We were boarded leaving Manchester and I watched a full movie before we took off!!! Flight okay , best thing was immigration at Melbourne , through in less than 10 mins
Would I book again, probably not as delays were constant every flight that i looked at around the time i was flying - with no explanation but given we flew for less than £500 quid return it was just about acceptable .
    Marko69's avatar
Same here, two hours on the Tarmac in October before we took off!! Melbourne airport was a breeze though. Delayed slightly coming back but the real nonsense was after we’d landed and it transpired TUI hasn’t arranged for Swissport to bring the luggage to the terminal, we were minimum 60 mins prob closer to 90 before the bags started coming out
  16. BrightLights1969's avatar
April is "spring break" so it's mega busy.

Yeah didn’t realise sonstruggked to find a decent hotel in a decent area.

Melbourne MLB airport is absolutely ideal for Port Canaveral where the TUI/Marella NAM cruises embark & disembark from/to. Nice quiet airport comparatively, but if you aren't flying to Florida for a cruise it isn't that ideal.
    wooden.top's avatar
I mean, it's only an hour drive away from central Orlando, not really a problem. You are going to be driving 20-30 mins if you fly into MCO and stay in Orlando/Kissimmee.
  18. Rod_SmithmPK's avatar
Do you need the jab and boosters to go to America?
    hairywaynus's avatar
    Sadly yes. Only two though.
Hopefully should be dropped within the next couple of months.

To add some balance, did this trip in September with our 8 month old, Flight, Staff, Food and hour drive were all not a problem, flew from Manchester and there were delays, the problem is if you expect any flight with any operator to be on time you will almost always be disappointed. we were delayed 2 hours out of Manchester, but so was the virgin flight at the gate next to us. in short £300 trip to Orlando is a good deal. we paid £1200 for the 3 of us (baby obviously free) for flights transfers hotel on international drive for 10 nights. So our expectations were set lower due to price but we were presently surprised, also meant we had extra spending money which was definitely needed!

Is there any public transportation (or something fairly priced) from Melbourne Airport to Orlando?
    Ripiq's avatar
Didn't see many options as it's so far out. I think most people would either use TUI/hotel buses as part of a package, or hire a car.
  25. johnw1980's avatar
What's anyone's experience of the TUI Transfer from Melbourne ? does it drop off at various hotels or is there a more dedicated service ?
    RobKAHjr's avatar
We stayed onsite Disney (all start Music), it went into Orlando for one or two drop offs, then went to Disney property and did one of the other resorts before ours. Total time was just under 2 hours. (edited)

Cheap flights but why is car hire still so expensive? Last visit before Covid was £220 for 2 weeks for intermediate car, now it's over £600!! Thought the car shortage was over!
    Atlantise's avatar
I think this is Melbourne related (shortage of cars at this particular airport). If you try to book from Miami for example its like 2x cheaper if not more.
  27. Shakespearean's avatar
Hiring a car is cheap BUT insurance makes it expensive

Check forums, Tui seem to change flights a lot. I don’t trust them and have rebooked with Virgin.
  30. Tootles77's avatar
You can book a transfer yourself try Mears they're usually reasonable if you're not wanting to hire/drive over there as it has become expensive. We stay iDrive area get the iTroley pass and use the road running behind idrive think that is the green route? And odd uber for later night trips and Disney or hotel bus. Previous flights used to be to Sandford with TUI before covid and I know people who've done that regularly. The last time we arrived in Orlando it was a nightmare at passport control think we were any 1.5 hrs as 2 flights arrived from UK about same time . Going out was also long queue to get through lines at security.

The other saving with this is the stealth charges on car parking which add up.
