Reasonable price - certainly beats any of the larger timber merchants near me. Obviously this is a national price so in some areas local suppliers may be able to beat this. 3m and 3.6m lengths also available at lower price/m.

Anybody know which store in the country has that one elusive straight bit ?

100%. Don't order CLS online from Wickes or you'll end up with spaghetti. However I did pick up some 2x4 recently from them in store that was pretty good.

Seems like we're being diddled if this is meant to be 3" X 2". Shouldn't it be closer to 75 X 50 (19% bigger) in these newfangled millimetres, or can this be blamed on inflation / brexit / immigration? (edited)

Nothing to do with mm or inflation or pandemic. Planned timber has never been correctly dimensioned because they've always planned off material and you are paying for all the material used to get the product you are paying for. (edited)

Here we go - wood from Wickes - cue the usual comments

Never buy from Wickes - local builders are cheaper
Never buy from Wickes - it's all twisted

    Facts -
Your local merchants might be cheaper today, tomorrow or some other day.
    They may not
Good chance the wood will be twisted if you don't handle and select it yourself.

Check the prices everywhere - what is cheaper today in one place may not be tomorrow. The should be no one approach. Check prices everywhere on the day you want it.

You pay in time buying cheap timber but worth it if you don't mind the extra work to get everything square. Personally just buy from local independent builders merchant. Every piece arrow straight. Any pieces that aren't are put in the clearance section. Worth it to me for most things but for fencing and whatnot Wickes specials are fine.

    Hot the for the price.

Not sure why Wickes timber threads draw shut down attempts on usual comments. Shop around. Yet to find any of these big % reduction Wickes timber deals beat regular local yard prices - appreciate others have found different.

I think what the comments seem to prove is that the price from timber merchants varies massively by where you are in the country. This leads people to think these deals are either good or bad depending on the lowest price they normally see. I have seen people post examples of their local supplier’s lower price but I have yet to see one within 150 miles of where I live. (edited)
