It's a good battery powered lawnmower but it's definitely not "Petrol-Like Power". If the grass is tall or wet it can struggle, needing multiple passes (lowering height each time) and eat up the batteries.

It reminds me I want a set of 4a batteries for mine so if anyone knows of a deal on good compatible ones please let me jnkw.

Totally second this. You *will* need multiple batteries, I bought a pair of 4ah from Aliexpress which did the job.

It's perfect for small gardens, but anything larger, look elsewhere.

I’ve had this for 2 years now, really lacks power , runs at full speed for about the first 20seconds from full charge and slows down even with 5a batteries. Also grass basket never fills it chokes up in the channel between the mower and basket causing it to fire grass out the bottom or it stalls if grass is too wet.
I love the cable free part but the rest means I’ve removed one chore and added numerous others

An excellent summary. I’ve had one for 2 seasons as well. Fortunately I have an arsenal of batteries as I’ve got loads of other Worx kit, but as a1 says, the grass collector really isn’t good enough. It rarely gets beyond half full before the underneath of the mower gets completely clogged up. Also the handle cushioning splits (I’ve had 2 and the same thing happened both times). It’s good for fairly short dry grass. It struggles badly on thick and wet grass.

This is a decent little mower as long as you understand it's limitations before buying it. It won't cut long, wet grass and don't expect it to cut a huge lawn on one charge. However, if you have a smallish lawn and keep on top of it then it should do the job.

Incidentally, the cheapest place to buy Worx stuff is often their eBay shop. I got this for just £99.99 during one of their regular sales in November 22.

joedastudd is spot on as the 2Ah batteries will last around 15 minutes at best and struggle in anything above medium length grass. Decent little lightweight battery mower for small lawns but get the larger 5Ah batteries if you want to fill the grass catcher.

2ah batteries just won't 'cut' it, literally.

Nice to see the word "literally" being used correctly. Good work.

I have this. It's shit. Don't do it

I agree with the above 2 posts. I got small lawn and does the job lovely but my step son got bigger lawn (about 30 ft by 15 ft) and on a good day there is just about enough charge to do his lawn

For some balance, I have this one also and love it. Yes, if your grass is long then you’ll need to ‘step down’ the mowing height but that’s not massively different than what you should be doing anyway. I use mine with 2 of the larger capacity batteries so am managing to cut my 70ft rear garden lawn with 2 passes. Agree with the point around the grass chocking up underneath though but that only tends to happen if the grass is damp. Overall though, I’m very happy with mine

I bought this model a year ago with the grass trimmer (was £161) and have been happy with it.

I can finish both front and rear gardens (about 400sqft) on 1 charge when I am doing a regular cut.
If the grass is too long then i would usually put it it on maximum height on a first run and it would get most of the job done.

It definitely needs more juice for bigger stuff, but for the price its a great peice of kit. When i was searching i couldn't find any 40V mower with more than 2ah batteries for less than £200 so compromised on this. (edited)

It’s not shit it’s ok for small lawns add this for four years still going no cables or petrol to mess with just add to replace roller at the back that’s it for first cut of year just put on high setting and it will be fine

But don’t expect petrol like power lol (edited)

    2Ah Batteries.Joke.

Bought the WG779E.1 off eBay over a year ago. It came with 2 x 4Ah and is ideal for keeping on top of the lawn mowing once I've done a first cut with my Bosch corded mower. I'd probably struggle with the 2Ah batteries. Incidentally, I only paid £118 for it

It’s a good price, but unless your lawn is relatively small it’s not a great piece of kit.

I’ve had one of these and a similarly priced Flymo and both have new owners as they would only work on a completely dry lawn which hadn’t grown slightly too long.

I wouldn’t recommend the Worx, but if you do go down this route get higher capacity batteries.

Still in the market, but I think my next venture will be the Hayter Hawk 36. I don’t want to spend that much but the Worx and Flymos haven’t done a good job on a modest lawn.

Shame, a 40V motor should be powerful enough to blitz through the job, but not when powered by batteries with smaller capacities than found in a mobile phone!!
    ashyt16turbo's avatar
The capacity isn't less as the voltage is higher. But still not good enough for the job.

I'm just returning another Flymo battery powered lawn mover. The reason? Batteries that last like 10 to 15 mins, the most!

I've got a small area on the back of my house (like 3x7m) and a similar one on the front. Two batteries (of 2 Ah likely) requires my to do as many as three(!) trips to have it done, so it's an all-day fun. And a spare batteries cost like £35 each (for the same 2Ah, but I'm not sure exactly).

Anyway, can't recommend it. And my next one will be either Bosch or Makita. A corded one. (edited)

I love mine, had for two years. I changed mine for 2 6ah batteries and I cut my medium sized lawn in half the time of a corded one. True, the grass box isn't great. I actually bought the heavy duty DeWalt battery mower and I found it extremely heavy and the cutting height wasn't low enough - prefer the worx for a third of the price

You can get a decent petrol mower for this price, not sure it’s a great deal… presumably the only benefit is it’d be less noisy :/

(Edited) We get our lawns mowed in half the time of when we used to use a wired mower as the set-up and pack-up time is pretty much non-existent. It's also much lighter and so you can whizz around much quicker.

Petrol mowers are obviously going to be smelly, noisy, heavy and need servicing, but will cut through anything, be able to run longer and will probably last a lot longer than one of these cheap electric ones (edited)

I can confirm nothing like a petrol mower

Can get a new petrol Mountfield on eBay for £129.99-£139.99.

My family has had the same petrol Qualcast for 12 years now.

You don't have to worry about maintenance much with petrol mowers, so I dunno why people bother with electric on anything bigger than a postage stamp lawn.

If you do have a small lawn then just using a manual push cylinder mower gives great results. As long as you know how to set the blade correctly. All on YouTube.

You will probably just want to do one oil change with any mower when you get it. The factory Chinese oil will be low quality and possibly not correct level.

And then metal particles from running in will contaminate the oil further.

Better to use E5 premium petrol because less ethanol content to go off. Better to run mower dry before you put it away for winter.

Always try and brush any wet grass off the deck and even spray the body with WD40 occasionally to protect it from rust.
