Review

Few things to consider before you go ahead:
  • Pay by credit card or PayPal (if the option available) so you could be protected in the case if something goes wrong
  • Likely you will have a non-UK charger, and you will need an adapter or an adapter will be attached to your order
  • Use a fee-free card and pay in USD to save a bit more
  • Delivery can sometimes take a long time

This should be pinned at the top.
Openwrt is such a gamechanger and its cheaper too

To everyone planning on buying this router...
Know that it pings chinese ip addresess and its menu is fully in chinese
There is a better one AX3000T.
It is cheaper and can be loaded with an openwrt system which is open source and in English.

Don't you think you're being a bit paranoid with the pinging China thing? Could that be to check for updates as most bits of tech kit do? Most routers are made in China anyway. IMO I think the UK government would be screaming about these if they suspected they were spying on us. I have used a few Chinese market routers without any problems and my bank account hasn't been emptied , infact it's a bit fuller with the savings I've made.

Do they offer a mesh system?

You can connect with other Xiaomi Mesh routers. I have a BE3600 meshed with an AX1800 (older version of AX3000). Works perfect. This offer is on a Chinese version and I have read that they don't mix with global versions, both my routers are the Chinese versions. Easy to set up using the Xiaomi app or on a browser 192.168.31.1 I used Google translate

Can anyone explain that note about it only working in mainland China please? Would this be difficult to set up alongside or replacing a bog standard BT router? (edited)

Literally just booted mine up today, need to select mainland China in the app then it connects, not dug deep but alot was in Chinese, might be a setting in the app somewhere. Will have another go as testing it against my current router to see if it's an improvement.

You really think any company would happy sell close to cost just because these tech giants prioritise value to consumers? ‘*Insert Eddie Abbew quote here*’

And you really think this doesn’t happen with Western tech giants? Google used to scan for people’s personal data via their street view cars. Not to forget the NSA and the British government insistent on backdoors to WhatsApp etc.

I have the global version and that has option for VPN. Personally I never use it because the speed gets slower. Apps are perfect for VPN.

Linked one up to my AX3600. Creates the mesh easilly but just didnt seem to be extending the range into the garden as planned. Its currently sitting back in its box.

I have the prior version of this which was a white / flat thing with antennas and was branded as Huawei.. run a pair in a mesh at home. They have been excellent honestly.. rock solid reliable, some decent features etc. Assuming these are as good as the OG units I would heartily endorse them.

I will never buy Mi router again.
I bought one of their AX6000 routers. At least once a day, I lose internet connection and need to reboot; returning for exchange was difficult and pointless for this price.
