Changes to the minimum basket value from 2 May

From 2 May, the minimum basket charge will increase to £5. The minimum basket charge is added to all orders that don’t meet the minimum basket value.

At the same time, the minimum basket value for Home Delivery will change to £50. The minimum order value for Click+Collect will remain at £25 for all stores.

Before 2 May

A £4 minimum basket charge will be added to home delivery orders at checkout where the basket value is under our £40 minimum.

You won’t incur this charge in the following situations:

Your final basket is over the £40 minimum.
You make changes to your order after you’ve checked out and the final basket is over the threshold.
If any substitutions are made to your order which result in your basket dropping below the threshold.
If you've incurred the minimum basket charge, you‘ll accumulate Clubcard points and these will be added to your account when you check out. This will also apply if you have a Delivery Saver plan – learn more about this below.

The minimum order value for Click+Collect orders is £25 in all stores. If your order is under this, you’ll be charged a £4 minimum basket charge.

You won’t incur this charge in the following situations:

Your final basket is over the threshold for your Click+Collect location.
You make changes to your order after you’ve checked out and the final basket is over the threshold.
If any substitutions are made to your order which result in your basket dropping below the threshold.
If you’ve incurred the minimum basket charge, you’ll earn Clubcard points on the charge and these will be added to your account when you check out. This will also apply if you have a Delivery Saver plan.

It’s all part of the (Delivery Saver) plan

Our subscription-based delivery service reduces the cost of home deliveries for your groceries. Depending on which Delivery Saver plan you sign up to, as long as you stay above the minimum basket threshold, orders will be delivered without charge during the times or days outlined in your chosen plan. You can do that once per day for every day your plan is valid.

And with the Delivery Saver Guarantee, if your plan doesn’t save you money, we’ll give you an eCoupon for the difference. For more info and to sign up, go to our Delivery Saver website.

Too be fair to them most retailers are either just breaking even or taking a loss with home deliveries.

Really? There is no profiteering going on? No greedy foreign shareholders looting customers?

On a serious note, I agree with you - the delivery charge doesn't really cover the cost as they don't have the advnatage of any other delivery service that serves multiple retailers simultaneously allowing a very efficient route. (edited)

It's no big deal. Just stick to your old £40 order. It will be £50 soon enough the way Tesco racks up it's prices

No, they stopped it for delivery saver plans already. It’s not new.

The team at MoneySavingExpert have warned Tesco shoppers that they have only one month left to triple their Clubcard points, if they spend them on the 'Delivery Saver' plans. From November 14, points will only be worth their face value. (edited)

So if you signed up for a delivery saver under terms & conditions that were a minimum basket of £40, aren’t Tesco now breaching those terms & conditions?

I like to split a weekly shop between 2 supermarkets, so I might be being forced to spend more than I might have…
