Your comment reminds me of my 'journey' with binoculars. I used to have some cheapish ones (£20 or so) as I didn't want to spend much as like you I thought use would be limited. I hardly used them at all, mainly because they weren't very pleasurable to use.

A couple of years ago I spent around £100 on a much better pair. They get used them much more because of the greater clarity and therefore pleasure. I wish I had gone straight for the better quality pair at the start. With hindsight the cheaper pair did little to help me test the water.

Clearly everyone's circumstances are different, but thought I'd share my experience in case it helps. Of course, one can spend thousands on binoculars so my £100 was at the low end and I'm sure many would ask why didn't I spend £50-100 more. For me, the £100 price point was where the quality changed from being adequate to enjoyable. I was fortunate to be able to try and compare several pairs in a well-stocked specialist store when choosing.

Reviews concur with my initial reaction: good price point, but somewhat unimpressive optical performance

Personal preference would be for a slightly lower magnification (8x would be perfectly adequate for my needs) but bumbling this up to 10x probably won't resolve much greater detail, but at less than eleven quid, your expectations should be appropriately "managed"

I'd be happy enough to keep a pair in the glove compartment of the car as a spare, or give the kids to play with, and I wouldn't be heartbroken if they were lost or damaged.

Voted hot, not on the strength of the optics, but on modest outlay.

Opticron binoculars give you a good bang for your buck. You can pick up a pair of Opticron Adventurer II WP 8x42 for less than £100 or for a bit more grab the 10x42 version are around that point. camerapricebuster.co.uk/Opt…ars Manufacturer page opticron.co.uk/our…x42

Nope, far too faint. We didn't even know they were there until Voyager 1 in 1979.

£20/£25 is an "awkward" price - not cheap enough to be of little concern, and expensive enough to care if they were rubbish!

I've been very happy using a pair of Olympus 8x21 DPC I - but they tend to be around the £45-£50 mark

If you searched "high powered 10x25 binoculars with low light night vision" in a popular online retailer you might see a very similar pair, can't cot on the optics as I've never laid hands on them, nor are they on any special offer, but they're of very similar configuration.

That isn't to say the original "Eurohike" ones aren't any worse, or better - they're just "different " and cost a different amount

8x32 would be cheaper and less bulky.
