Those TVs are too big for typical UK house

Wrong. My flat cannot even be considered big but I have a 70 inch Samsung on the wall and it fits in perfectly in the living room.
Seriously, after a while, it just feels like the 55 in it replaced!
I think also the living room layout makes a huge difference, I have two big blank walls it could have gone on but my friend with a larger living room only has one wall that can take a maximum of 40 inch due to the room design.

Get it delivered, that's the trick. Got mine delivered right into my living room. Got a friend to help with setup only because I was wall-mounting it. I could easily have set it up alone if I was putting it on a stand due to the ingenious way Samsung packaged it to make it easy to remove and attach the stands. (edited)

In 1981 there were no widescreen televisions2. There were no TVs anywhere near this size, average size for a CRT TV was 25" or so afaik3. There were no LCD TVs4. The Internet was essentially for scientists in 1981 and there were no smart TVsInteresting or boring 1981 trivia >"In 1981 NSF supported the development of the Computer Science Network (CSNET). I'm done buying rebadged tv's and/or tv's with tiny warranties. I've had a few break recently and I've had no luck arguing with the manufacturer that they should've lasted longer. I'd advise anyone to look beyond the quality of the panel and think of where they are cutting costs on other parts because they matter too.

You would be surprised, I replaced my previous 65" with a Samsung 75". After a few days, the 75" doesn't look any different to the 65" screen. One other thing, my screen is wall hung. It maybe an optical illusion but in my opinion, wall hung screens look less imposing than screens on a stand.

  24. russ17's avatar
    You are correct.

Many brands are now badge engineered Vestel TV's made in Turkey.

Since about 2015 some Panasonic, some Toshiba, Some if not all JVC (brand is owned by Dixons) and many of the low end (Polaroid (brand now owned by Asda AKA Walmart),Teknika (brand of Tesco), Bush, Alba (brand owned by Argos) etc) and others, are simply Firmware engineered versions of the same TV.

The Panel may be slightly different (faster response etc) and there may be different ports and features, but they are all very similar.

The do sufferer with Power supply, firmware corruption and screen issues over time, as they are made to a price, like most consumer electronics these days, so that they are not as reliable as higher priced products as the components and circuits are not as well designed.

I know this because I repair these TV's and know by experience.

Have a look at the label on the rear, some actually say made by Vestel, others will say Dixons (aka Currys) where they commission Vestel to manufacture a TV to set selling price, with a unique model number that only Currys sell, therefore stopping you doing a price match with other retailers, as the model number will be slightly different, bur essentially the same TV.

I saw this in Hemel Hampstead and couldn't believe it. Now I look for it online and this post is all I could find.
I have an old Sharp it's now it the bedroom, rarely used for the last 7 years, 13 years old in total. Lackluster but immortal. But that was the Aquos series.
Sharp sold their brand to various manufacturers for a while... so is really an original japanese Sharp?
The models in question should be here: sharpconsumer.uk/ele…hd/
But 70'' don't exist yet. Anyone can trace this model and find some product link or manual for it? (edited)

It’s not about the size of the house, it’s the size of the wall they go on.

I have an 83 inch but the wall iits on is 20+ foot long so looks fine.

Oddly the higher the resolution of the set, the closer you should sit (within reason). We sit 12 foot from ours and it’s amazing

For those concerned 70 inch is too big. It is indeed big for most English …For those concerned 70 inch is too big. It is indeed big for most English houses/flats. But within a couple of days, you don't even realise how big it is, you get used with it.The problem is the poor broadcast quality on some channels. While 4k, FHD, etc is fine, on the 'old' channels the image is not great at all. Because the rooms are small, you sit quite close to the TV and you notice poor quality. I replaced my 48 inch with a 65 only a couple of days ago, and I can clearly see the poor broadcast quality now, while I could not see it on my smaller TV. The new TV is better specs than the old one, it is also QLED. Once I placed the order, I was debating if I should have gone for 70 inch, but now I think I've made the right decision. It is not only about how stupid a big TV will look in a small room, it is also about the quality of the viewing if you're only 2-3 metres away from the TV. If I feel the quality is not great on a 65 inch QLED Samsung, I'm pretty sure the quality will be worse on this 70 inch non QLED. However, pricewise this is a good deal, even Sharp is not what it used to be long time ago.

Agreed. For people watching purely 4K, this set will be ok. (Maybe no HDR worth talking about though) but standard def tv will be terrible and almost unwatchable.
