Compost season has arrived. Tesco has 2 for £8 on Miracle Gro All Purpose with a clubcard (£10 without or £5 each when brought singly). A good price compared with Homebase £7.45.

Bought 4 bags today for £16 (160 litres) all bags very high quality, well rotted, no sticks or bits of plastic. Worth paying £4 a bag for when most of the £3 a bag stuff is such poor quality and a lot of material is discarded.

B&Q sell 50l bags at £7 or 3 for £18 (150 litres) making it 12p per litre.

The Lidl peat free stuff (£2.99/40L) this year seems pretty good; dark and well rotted, not powdery like some compost is.

Wilko bags do seem to be 50L but the price per litre works out the same as the Tesco deal at 10p per litre. It's often easier to park at Tesco than Wilko. I have edited the Wilko comparison out of the original deal post as it is a bigger size. Thank you.

The Homebase pack size is definitely 40L 18.6p per litre. (edited)

I haven't tried that this year. Last year it was £2.29 and 99p for 20 litres and I bought quite a lot of the smaller bags but it was woodier than this Miracle Gro stuff. I needed some good stuff today for top dressing and planting on.

Got some of this on a bogof offer at local garden centre. Opened yesterday and have to say l wasn't that impressed with it glad l didn't pay full price, maybe just be my opinion though.lt seemed very coarse looking. The one l have been buying from my local discount shop at 4for £10 seemed much finer. Agree that lidls is good cheap compost as well.
