From the FAQs on the deal page, I believe this is for the first Google Play purchase through PayPal... if you have used other payment methods on Google Play then this promotion is still available, however if you have previously used your PayPal account to purchase items on Google Play then you are not eligible anymore.

it looks to be your first purchase with PayPal in Google Play so if you've used other payment methods before should be eligible for the offer (I think!)

Just for the record the email is definitely genuine, so everyone needs to stop panicking. The link on the email and on this post takes you to paypal.com, and all the promotion details are on their website. Any PayPal agent saying it is a fake email is wrong. (edited)

The person you spoke to likely does not know about the promotion or the emails they use, I have had a similar issue where I asked them about an email I received and they claimed it wasn't theirs but it was, as I later found out.

The £10 is not immediate, it says it takes between 6 days and 2 weeks:

I had a sneaky feeling this may be the case and almost just their knee-jerk reaction to anything they aren't 100% sure on just to be safe.. But seems like a terrible practice and puts alot of unnecessary stress on someone.. Thanks for your reply though, feel a little reassured now

Ready Player One was one of my favorite suggestions, but I think I liked Daemon and Freedom (a two part series) by Daniel Suarez even more. They don't have any of the feel good nostalgia that Ready Player One had, but if you like the whole near future dystopia thing, they are worth a read (listen?) as well.

I completed this deal after seeing it advertised in Google Play Store - basically right underneath the buy button. 15 days after making my purchase and no reward has arrived. Paypal support say that the offer must have had expired and it is a Google problem. Google say 'the Paypal' has misled me and they bear no responsibility for any promotions shown within the Play store. Unless I receive an email directly from Google about a promotion, I should not expect them to be honoured.

If you're in a similar position, the best you can do is apply for a refund for the product you purchased, though it might impact the developer.

Thanks Maaark. Just to provide a quick update, Google emailed me today to say the refund was denied due to policy. Chat support reiterated that it is not their problem and eventually abruptly ended the chat session. Looking at the way this offer is advertised, I think this is definitely the fault of both companies. This was not just some random email sent from Paypal - this is a feature deliberately coded into Google Play.47766411-BS17X.jpg
