Probably a silly question but would I need to buy a ground sheet for this? Or additional ground sheet. (edited)

Vango makes footprints only for some of their tents, but footprint for Vango Longleat should be good enough (it's slightly smaller tent but that's not an issue). Or get tarp. One thing is critical with footprints - they can not stick out from under the tent or you will end up with pond under your tent when it rains.

Thanks OP, I took the plunge and ordered. Now just need to spend another few hundred quid and we'll be sorted. Where to start?

Pitchup.com - reasonable booking camping site searching tool.
    Get minimal gear:
    - beds - we went for airbeds, but that is personal preference.
    - sleeping bags - can't praise enough "Pod" sleeping bags. Super comfy, warm enough for sleeping with night temperature dropping to 0 degC when supplemented with hot water bottle
    - camping cooker - single burner basic unit is easily enough for basic cooking needs
    - Camping table or Camping kitchen unit so you have where to put cooker or kettle if you go for pitches with electric hookup. Means to make coffee are IMO on critical list . If you are going for electric pitch you will also need camping extension cable with standard sockets.
    - Some chairs are also useful.
With those go for short weekend camp on nearby camping site to really establish what you really need.

Can anybody suggest a good footprint/ground sheet for this? Vango don't have an specific one for it so need to find one that matches well

Either the 800xl longleat variant (its slightly smaller than ideal but will still cover 90% or get a 7x3 tarp for £10

I bought this last year and it's an azing tent. Fit 8 9 of us in without any issues (5 adults and 4 kids)

I've been trying to establish if there is an official vango porch extension compatible with this tent. I can see there is for the Longleat 8 man but not this specific tent? Would it work fit?

Hi I have had a response and they (Vango) have recommended the experience awnings, the ones that fit the 800xl Longleat. Link here.

Would this be a good option for a complete camping novice?

    Definitely.
    Bit of pumping.
    Bang in a few pegs.

Quite hard to put this up wrong, really.

My wife has poured cold water on this find. She doesn't like the idea of us sleeping at one end and the kids sleeping at the other. I might just buy one for myself. Heat Added.

Have to agree with your wife.. not sure why anyone would chose to take the risk personally, when you don’t have to

Good price for a large air tent.

Specification wise it's a upgraded Vango Longleat II Air 800XL
    - wider to accommodate 70cm beds instead of typical 60cm allowance
    - upgraded fabric 4000mm instead of 3000mm water column resistance
All of that at price below Longleat Air.

70cm bed width allowance gives you possibility to put in 4 typical single airbeds side by side as those are typically 70cm wide.

Air tents are so good, I'd recommend to anyone, they're in a different league to pole tents in the wind and so easy to put up.

Only downside is they're rather large and do take up precious boot space.
    yatuin's avatar

Poled ones are not much smaller, especially in those sizes plus if you are looking at that size of tent boot space is already gone and you better start looking at getting van or trailer for camping gear - packing family of 4-5 for week in tent requires more than typical family car can provide.

Hard to see that anywhere else for <£500 (edited)

For air frame tent you will struggle to get anything close below £650-700. Even Vango Longleat air 800xl will cost you ~£700. Below 500 you generally are in fiberglass poled area of market

How does this compare to a berghaus 6.1 nightfall tent. I don’t really need 8 people. Only 4 of us. They HH is 6000 compared to 4000. Is it worth the extra for berghaus (edited)

    Check pitchup.com for sites.
My tent is considerably bigger and it finding suitable pitches while limited was not very problematic.
7x3 is reasonably small for family tent. Most of 4 man tents are above 6x3 with 5-6 man tents easily getting above 7x4. Campsites tend to adjust to that and allow bigger pitches. Based on check of 20 top rated pitchup advertised campsites 80% campsites would be suitable and likely rest would be ok if you contacted them and checked as their advertised sizes were very close to required.

Cheaper than 3 days air bnb in devon

Probably even cheaper than just the fuel to get there & back!

Anyone got any info on where this fits into their range, I can't seem to find anything related to the Marino outside of what you said yatuin, thank you

Family of five, been looking at an air tent for a while so trying to weight this up as the option

Look at Vango odyssey 800 or Vango Centara 800. Those 2 look almost identical to Marino. It's likely that Marino is updated / renamed Costco version of one of mentioned tents.

How fast are these to pack up?
    yatuin's avatar
    Author
With a bit of practice I would expect below 30min. It takes 2 people ~45min to dismantle, fold and pack bigger poled tent with extra footprint.
