Join local FB groups and search on there as likely locals have asked before - if not, post as a question yourself.

In the past I have used mybuilder.com to get quotes, you select the trade you require.

Localheroes.com owned by British gas and is reasonable. Used them a couple of times and both were great.

All the businesses listed on this website have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards to ensure that they operate in a legal, honest and fair way.buywithconfidence.gov.uk

See an electricians van parked up in job stop and ask for business card. Gives you chance to check them out. Don't phone if bad vibe.
Also find vans outside trade and DIY store. (edited)

They will all gather every other Thursday in the local park at 8:32AM just go and ask then or alternatively ask people in the area and family and friends for recommendations

Oh, those dodgy ones that also stand outside B&Q and Wickes?

People may be able to make recommendations from experience if you’re able to say what area you’re in.

Go to local DIY shops, they might have a notice board where people stick their cards.

I find checkatrade the most reliable. Read the reviews. Make sure you get one who is part P qualified as they will need to issue certificates and give building regs notification certificates.

Checkatrade and Mybuilder are both rubbish. Check the competent persons register for someone who is NICEIC registered. Recently had a lot of work done, so drop me a message if you need further advice.

Never had an issue with either website if they have good reviews, photos of their work etc. You've obviously taken the cheapest, zero reviewed option with cash in hand. You're not a landlord are you?

Pop in to a shop that deals with electrics and see if they have any cards or advise. If it's anything like the business I work in the dodgy people struggle to keep business cards in those places
