When did it stop being uncle Ben's

From 1946 to 2020, Uncle Ben's products carried the image of an elderly African-American man dressed in a bow tie, which is said to have been based on a house negro waiter.[14][15] In 2020, Mars told Ad Age, "We don't know if a real 'Ben' ever existed."[16] According to Mars, Uncle Ben was an enslaved African-American "house negro cook" known by the plantation owner and overseers for the quality of his rice dishes. Gordon L. Harwell, an entrepreneur who had supplied rice to the armed forces in World War II, chose the name "Uncle Ben's" as a means to expand his marketing efforts to the general public.[17]

Not aimed at the poster but this kind of deal really annoys me. How much recourse and power was used to create these cheap freebies that will end up in a landfill somewhere its a joke to be honest.

Why not have some kind of voucher to collect over time for a much better Wok that will actually last as a promo, or instead just make the food cheaper for people..

Iceland do this all the time "Free this" or whatever, its basically a £5 off voucher code no matter what way you spin it, the wok is £4 to buy FYI.

Great find, but sorry, this is cold for me.
Was about to get it, but noticed it’s only 3 stars, read reviews and decided to not bother. Wag too many reviews suggest the same thing - that despite using wooden or plastic utensils, all the nonstick coating comes off into the food.
If anyone doesn’t know, the nonstick coating chipping is an extremely serious health hazard.
Bring back enchiladas with ceramic tray, still have the tray 3ish years later

The wok will last a shorter period than the food lol

Reviews suggest that it's basically a disposable single-use wok

No Chinese I know would ever buy uncle Ben stuff. None
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
Most people that like nice rice would never buy Uncle Ben stuff, lol.
We have some on our shelves that are basically 'emergency rations', pretty sure a couple of them are a few years past their best.

It's convenience for people that don't care too much about how something tastes.
Other than their plain rice (which isn't great), I find anything in their packets taste vile. (edited)

I knew they were planning on removing the uncle part but damn it's actually happening, no way I can realistically call this just "Ben's"

And the face on the packet too.

Review's of the wok aren't at all favourable
  17. Joshuaaap's avatar
Not really free, most expensive product is £1.50 so it’s get a wok for 50p at best or £1.25 at worst.
  18. Slinkeh's avatar
If you value your health then you'd be sensible to avoid using this wok.
  19. scallygally's avatar
Stop buying Bens when they dropped the 'Uncle'.
