I just use the multi tool. Works great and saves having to buy another tool.

    I bet that took a while 😹

Are these easy enough to use, or can you potentially damage your paint work? Cheers

Very easy. Just don't leave it on one spot for ages

Can the 125mm backing be changed? At this price, so tempted!
    HertzVanRental's avatar
    Yes they can be changed.

I’ve tried a few backing plates and the Velcro pad ripped off - these were good brands as well such as Meguiars.

I wouldn’t usually buy Silverline tools, but their backing plates have been faultless and only a few £s from Amazon.

Edit: Sorry, after research it looks like you can't change the backing pad size on this DeWalt Model as you can with other DA polishers. (edited)

That’s the lowest I’ve seen it. Don’t see a use for it and so don’t need one, so did the Middle aged man thing and ordered.

Been looking out for this for at least a year and kept hoping for a deal that betters the ebay code deals. This is by far the cheapest deal..... yet now hesitating about how much will I really use it. Having not washed let alone polished my car for ages. Yet so want to get back to doing so. My worry is I've become so lazy and I won't use it. (Like having spent a whole load of money on good quality car tools found on HUKD past 12months and then still went and paid labour to fit parts!!)

But, this is a bargain. What do I do, what do I do. Now I'm just waffling to strangers on a website.

    But it!

Mine will be delivered in a few minutes apparently... Can't wait to find things to polish so I can justify its purchase! 😄
    KenMiller's avatar
Mine arrived too. Been walking around the house looking for things to polish, nothing yet.

Thanks OP. I’m sure I’m not the only person here that pounced on this impulsively and is now wandering around looking for things to polish.

Are there are any recommendations as to cloths, pads etc to use with the machine? Some of the Meguiars pads (e.g. DMF5) do seem well reviewed but others still very much a fan of the foam pads. This wouldn’t be for any serious corrections - mostly just the light polish.

Historically I’ve used Autoglym’s super-resin polish when applying by hand - is that still appropriate for use here?

Apologies for what I am sure are very basic questions - usually answered best in advance of the power tool arriving… ;-)

I'm assuming that you're a newbie to detailing with a DA Polisher like this and I was in a similar situation. I found the Meguiar’s Detailing 101 YouTube Channel really informative on how to use the DA Polisher - it takes you through the entire detailing process from the start to end, it's very informative and I was really impressed with how the vehicle looked when I first used mine.

I've had mixed results with pads and tried Lake Country (highly rated), Meguiar’s pads and unbranded from Amazon. Nearly all of them have failed when using them at higher speeds that are required for removal of swirls/scratches and, whilst you highlight that you won't be doing serious corrections, this is probably the most important/satisfying stage, as most cars have swirls that these will remove and give the foundation to a brilliant finish. For the pads in this compound polish stage, even a Meguiar's foam pad only lasted, from new, after completing 1/2 of the bonnet and was sent back! Got fed up of returning/throwing foam pads away during the compound polish stage and tried a different sort in the Meguiar's DMC6 Detailer DA Microfibre Cutting Disc that seems to be holding up well.

Whilst polishing or applying the wax then the speeds are a lot slower and I've had no issues with foam pads failing. I've also used the Autoglym’s super-resin polish with my DA Polisher and it's a good one to use with a DA Polisher - remember that'll only enhance the colour, but not protect it so a wax in the the next stage is needed.

Can't wait to try this DA Polisher as it's very highly reviewed.

That is seriously tempting! Do I give up the mains powered Meguiars!!?
    donkeyoaty's avatar
Only if you have other DeWalt XR kit and can maximize battery utilisation.

Been looking to buy this for a while. Does anyone know if the Meguias pads can be used with this unit? Or best ones to buy?

Can this code be used on other dewalt items on their website? I guess not as I tried and price hasn’t changed on the heat gun I’m after
    T2JOK's avatar
The code is for eBay items only, go on to eBay and check out there others other items and the heat gun should be there ….code is JAN10 and ends tonight at midnight.

  21. TS001's avatar
Will this get rid of swirl marks on black paint?
    Scrappy's avatar
Yup, stick a sanding pad on it and run it on full speed. Make sure you stick a bit of pressure on it.
  22. Rush420's avatar
Maybe someone can share a link for a battery for a decent price ? I'm a bit confused as can see 2x 18v 5.0 for 50£ or same one on Amazon for 96£.... why such an difference in price ? Which one I need to look after ?
    philb1965's avatar
Share the link, I’ll have 2 5amp for £50! £96 seems more like it.
  23. Persephone's avatar
Now I have it I'm wondering if putting a sanding disc on it will turn it into a Festool Rotex? 😄
    BarneyRubble's avatar
    Doesn't have dust extraction though
