Stock Check List coming in a bit (but it's pretty well stocked)

Edit: I was going to a more comprehensive list but there are SO many locations still available with stock that I stopped making a list!

  • Rugby
  • Kettering
  • Nottingham
  • Manchester Ashton Under Lyne
  • Stockport
  • Manchester Radcliffe
  • Rochdale
  • Preston
  • Southport
  • Chester
  • Liverpool G
  • Warrington
  • Liverpool Sefton
  • Bangor Wales
  • Belfast
  • Newtonabbey
  • Ballymena
  • Colerain
  • Many many others (but not leicester or Nottingham booo!)

  • Keeps tinned food fresh
  • Avoids odours in the fridge
  • Fits standard sized cans approximately 7.5cm diameter
  • Reduces single use plastic e.g., cling film
Have you a tin of left over beans which you want to keep fresh in the fridge? Then these can cover will keep your tinned food fresh for longer. Simply put the lid over any standard sized can and store where needed. It's dishwasher safe so you can easily wash it when it's dirty or not being used.

I don't think food should be kept in a can once the seal has been opened. Even with an air tight lid

I've been doing just that for decades and am still alive :-)

Really dangerous practice. Try reading the instructions on food cans.

These are only really good for pet food as it's kept ambient and the tins usually used within 1 to 2 days

Or just re-use the lids off coffee tins?

I don't drink coffee but yes!

Once you open a can you really should put the contents in to another container as once the inside of the can reacts with air it can make the contents dangerous.

It's pure laziness not to put the unused contents in to another container.

What's the inside of the can made if and what happens when it reacts with air? Got me worried now.

Best to buy glass mason jars and put the unused food in them. Home bargains sell them.

I put baked beans and tinned Toms in used doritios salsa dip jars

Pringles lids do the same thing.

Do not store food in opened tins - decant any unused into another container. This is basic food hygiene advice yet people buy these things!

Plenty of advice from academics, govt depts and the BBC, that will advise that once opened "the tin from the can might transfer more quickly to the can's contents."
Don't let the fact that tin cans no longer contain any tin, sway your decision :-)

    Interesting.

    > Most food cans in UK are made from steel made using molten iron. Iron ore is mixed with coke and limestone where it is then heated to a very high temperature in a blast furnace. The molten iron is then poured into a vessel, where a percentage of recycled steel is added along with oxygen to produce steel.cannedfood.co.uk/how…ay/

As others have said. You should not put opened cans in the fridge, with or without lids. Always transfer to another plastic or glass container first.

I'd like the answer to that too... At least 10 of those little glass bubs in my cupboard. Still not found a use for them (edited)
