Here are my Alverstones after only a year. The shoe is very comfortable, I’ll give them that, but the quality of the soles are terrible. You can see the cells in the heels are worn down, but what you can’t see is that I’ve had to superglue the orange inlays at the toes. Actually, I’ve just checked and one needs done again (see second pic).

i hope this helps. All in all, I’d say the price of this deal is reasonable for the quality you’re going to get.

Does anyone know how is the sizing on these, some reviews say it is true to size and wide enough, others recommend half size up and mention that they are narrow ? No more free returns with paypal unfortunately ..

Edit: replies seem to differ as much as reviews. Went to SsportsDirect and tried a different Merrell GTX - size 12 was def small, comparing to my old size 12 Caterpillars maybe 1cm shorter. Went with with 12.5 as 13 is oos, hopefully will be fine.

Do these break much within time, or should I return if there is even a minor inconvenience? (edited)

I've had 4 pairs of Merrells in 3 different styles and never bought any size bigger than my usual size. I can only think the people saying you need to buy a larger size must be wearing thick hiking socks or even more than one pair of socks. My son's also had a couple of pairs of Merrell boots and he has only ever bought his regular size.

Are these very narrow and how soft are they? I have size 11 from different Merrell wateproof shoes and these are super narrow and literally squeeze my foot on sides despite being 1 size bigger than I usually wear.

Others may have different opinions but I think they are good for road/street walking as well as for when you go off trail.

So most people really think u would need to size up or at least half a size? I'm size 9 in new balance trainers which is probably the smallest sizing in trainers.

I made the mistake of reading some people advising go a size up. I actually only went half a size up recently with these shoes and they were too big so bought again in my exact size and fit perfectly.

Edit: Mine were Moab 3 GTX by the way, not this exact model. (edited)

All the Merrell shoes I have owned came with poor quality shoelaces that easily came undone, are these shoes any better in that respect?

Just got mine, half size up .. think it is OK, but wouldn't say super comfy as my old well worn ones.

Do they get better as you break them ?
