My only current device with Wi-Fi 6 is my iPhone but does that matter, are there any benefits to a household without any Wi-Fi 6 devices (other than future proofing)?
Then, although very expensive at the moment, there's Wi-Fi 6e.
So does anyone know if it would be better to wait for 6e to become mainstream and so hopefully cheaper? Wi-Fi was the same for years wasn't it? So why all these new versions all of a sudden? Are there going to be even newer systems in a couple of years (Wi-Fi 7)? Finding that side of things very confusing and putting me off updating my current mesh system (which is fine).
Confusion aside, from what I’ve seen this seems like a great price and my current Deco mesh system is fine and was a breeze to setup with the app. It’s been reliable and is easy to maintain/update so I’d recommend the brand at least.

There have been different specifications of Wi-Fi over the years. Wi-Fi 6 was adopted in 2019, then before that Wi-Fi 5 in 2014.

Each new specification brings performance gains as well as other benefits. So far all Wi-Fi 6 and below specifications work either on the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz channel or can use both in the case of Wi-Fi 4 and 6 (Not Wi-Fi 5)

Wi-Fi 6E is the only specification that uses a 6Ghz band which should provide greater speeds but also with greater bandwidth comes a shorter theoretical distance. You may notice now your router at home you will receive a 2.4Ghz signal further than the 5Ghz signal and your phone may end up connecting to the 2.4Ghz network once you reach further from your router. So 6Ghz does not travel as far.

Wi-Fi 7 is due 2024 and will work on all bands so 2.4,5 and 6 Ghz.

Tbh if your equipment is working for you ok now then there's no reason to upgrade. Your devices can only connect to the router/mesh at that Wi-Fi protocol that they have been manufactured with. This mesh system may provide you with a better signal around the house so you eliminate dead spots and give you a better signal with a higher speed which will be useful if you have FTTP internet for example.

Can someone simply explain Mesh to me please? I live in a non fibre area, but have Three 5g broadband averaging 700mbps and BT copper averaging 70mbps as a back up, although Three has never gone down!

Will Mesh benefit me in my home?

Mesh isn't really to do with your internet connection it's more to do with how your wifi is distributed around your home. If you've got bad signal in different parts of the house these may help boost them in the troublesome areas. It all depends on what your current router is. (edited)

Any idea what the difference is compared to the x55?
Spec seems identical & per unit price is similar

You’d need a massive home to need three, is all I’d say - we have two S7 Deco’s and they cover our house with ease. (3 story 1800sq ft)
One top floor, one bottom floor, opposite sides, connected via Ethernet backhaul. (edited)

I have a router with my community fibre 150mbps given to me by them. It is a Linksys Velop AC2200. After reading a lot of concerning reviews about them when people bought them to extend their current wifi, they suggest i get a TP-Link Deco S7 AC1900 x3 unit. Would they work well with my router or should i just stick with the Velop my supplier gave me and extend with that brand? Thanks

I'm in a similar position, except that I have an existing investment in 3 Deco M5 units which transformed the WiFi coverage in my 3 storey Victorian house and have been solidly reliable in the 18 months I've had them.

The Linksys Velop router from CF by comparison has been temperamental to connect to for management access, the app is awful and unintuitive, and the interoperation with the Deco mesh is totally nonexistent (although to be fair this problem afflicts all vendors because that's how you sell more mesh nodes 🤦🏻‍♂️).

For those reasons I am going to stick with Deco even though mine are WiFi 5, and gradually upgrade my units piecemeal. If anyone is in the market for an open-box but otherwise unused Velop MX4200 then DM me!

Heat added .. I have these and stronger signal than the BT dishes . So simple to connect and connect to devices .. ( 150 is enough for me ) At least my BT bill went down as their dish wasn't needed , and got £30 back from BT when returned

X60 is available for £135. Better value in my view (at least if you go with the stated specs...)
