Been looking for an outdoor cooking Dutch Oven and came across this at what seemed good value as it includes a carry bag, has feet & spiral handle if you want to cook on the ground, via a tripod/swing and lid lifter or just on top of a BBQ Grill or firepit if it has a grill over it or tripod.

The lid can be used as skillet as well, seems well reviewed not the biggest but I will be cooking for 2-4 people most of the time so will be ideal for my needs

  • Safe and High Quality, our Dutch Oven is made of high quality, heat-resistant cast iron. The fire pot is pre-seasoned and can be used immediately. The lid can also be turned over and used as a pan.
  • Easy to use, the first-class cast iron pot offers the pleasure of eating delicious dishes and stores the heat for an extremely long time. Good heat transfer and special surface structure of cast iron heat can be stored and transferred efficiently and evenly. With a thermometer lead-through between the pot and the lid, the temperature can be observed at any time without opening the lid.
  • Mulitple uses, our cast iron pot is a great choice for both home and outdoor grilling. It is ideal for cooking, roasting, braising, deep-frying, steaming and baking and can also be used for the oven, fireplace, barbecue area or campfire.
  • With bag, a lid lifter is available with the cast iron pot, with which the lid can be lifted comfortably and safely. The specific details on care and cleaning can be found in the instructions. A storage bag is include.
  • Total volume: 4.25 liters, suitable for 2-5 people. Inner diameter: 23.5 cm. Height (pot): 9.5 cm. Volume (pot): 3.15 liters. Volume (lid): 1.1 liter. Weight: 5.5 kg.

Just means it already has a coating of oil baked into it to aid non stick. Personally when mine arrives I will do 2 or 3 more coatings of groundnut oil at 375-400f on my Gas grill or oven for 30 minutes upside down to build up a better coat for 30 minutes a time. If you have an outdoor grill always better to season it on that as they can smoke a bit during this process (edited)

Mine turned up, one of my first non lodge pieces of cast iron and certainly the quality seems pretty decent

Some photos if interested in what you get

Lid looks as if lid could be used as a decent skillet, with a bit of depth also

Compared alongside the Lodge L8DD3 4.73 litre Dutch Oven

Looks ideal for my needs for 2-4 people most of the time and my Lodge alongside it, I know will comfortably cook a whole 1.4kg chicken in it also. (edited)

I thought a "Dutch Oven" involved a duvet and some gas

Saw that one, no carry bag for it and I want to store mine in the shed and take it away with me occasionally also. £15 was the cheapest I could see a carry bag for it that may or not have fitted it. Good price if you don't need a bag though (edited)

Anyone looking for inspiration, just g00gle: "Potjiekos Recipes" and you will find that many recipes it will keep you cooking a different pot for every day... for the rest of your life! Particularly good if you are into slow cooked layered stews (typically tough cuts) similar to a Lancashire Hotpot... with stirring strictly prohibited!
Cast iron pot cooking has been a staple of South African cuisine for centuries (Dutch settlers since 1652), although they tend to favour the more rounded pot (not flat bottomed) with longer legs. Probably because it is treated as more of a group social event, cooking on an open charcoal fire (savoured over many hours and many more drinks... as the pot slowly bubbles away

I got one of these about 6 years ago thinking it would be good for when we are camping etc.

I've used the main pot once and I've used the lid 3 or 4 times. Otherwise it just sits in the garage.

It didn't really work out as planned. There are easier ways to make food. Might just be me

I reckon most people will find that. 5.5kgs of faff.

Looks good in photos, otherwise, why make life hard?

    Thanks OP, good spot.

I’d personally season it before use.

Could this fit on a Weber Kettle type BBQ under the BBQ lid?

Would it sit on the grill or in with the charcoal?

Worth a try. Some reviews say it rusts quickly

No doubt from people who don't look after this - it isnt a tefal you can use and abuse.

You need to show it a bit of love.
