sorted bybooked a room for my mother the property stunk of weed, no key to lock the bedroom door when leaving, she didn’t stay a single night £400 pound she lost. Booking.com didn’t help.
I am booking some travel for work, and I thought it would be great to get some cash back, but when I compare using the Metro link to simply going to the site, I notice that I'm actually paying more! If you book directly, you can get the "genius discount". If not, you get it in a few months via Metro, it seems. Great if you want to scam expenses, but pretty stupid otherwise.
As an example, I saw that a hotel in Amsterdam was available for £279 for 3 nights when going direct to the website. When I go through the affiliate services, it's £303. So yes, if you get the £45 voucher back you do get a bit more back I suppose, but perhaps not always worth being drawn in by these deals. Not always guaranteed, you're getting a voucher rather than an instant discount and you have to wait months.
Perhaps this isn't the case on all hotels and granted I've only checked on one tbf! Still, no disrespect meant to OP, as all in all this might work for some people. (edited)
First of all, check you're actually logged into your Booking .com account when you click though, otherwise you won't see any "Genius" discounts you might be entitled to.
When you click through an affiliate link or cashback site, I suspect they hide or disable some special rates, or they reduce the "Genius" discount or other discounts you could get. The standard hotel rates don't change, else that would be a dodgy practice.
Also, you can see different rates if searching via the app or website, or depending on the device you use. I often see lower "Mobile only price" if I use Chrome app on my mobile, compared to Chrome on my PC.
It's so annoying when you book and then see a cheaper rate or better cashback deal. This is why I only ever book a fully flexible rate so I can easily cancel and rebook. (edited)
Its a booking agent - very few of them will help you because you dont like the hotel you booked? They will only really step in if there is something wrong with the booking? (edited)
Never had a single problem with booking.com, I always set the reviews to 8+ from the jump.
I just purchased a hotel in Singapore, and didn't get that charge.
You must prepay your booking in GBP
You must complete before 30/06
?
I always compare prices on multiple hotel sites, and even by booking direct with the hotel.
Expedia will often have a cheaper price AND higher cashback rates offered (up to 10%) compared with booking.com (usually 3-4%). (edited)
Replying to
Two nights on booking.com £430.
Two nights direct with hotel £350.
Heat to the OP but worth double checking booking direct.
Bit of an update...
I don't remember rebooking, so for whatever reason it registered. I never got any tracking email either.
I booked a newly listed property and I was then directed to a website to add my credit card details. I didn't realise this was a Transfergo site for cash payments via credit cards.
When I told Booking.com they referred me to their terms and conditions which basically exonerated them from any consequences.
They are quick to get their commission when things go fine, but don't want to accept any liability for the properties they advertise, even when these do not exist.
In the end my credit card refunded me, thankfully.
At least you will get that! If the Amazon gift vouchers comes through then that's a bonus. (edited)
I dont see booking.com on my airtime rewards?
Could also pay with Amex and get 8 Avios for £1
