How does it work?

Follow the step-by-step process using the buy back estimator tool (https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/customer-service/services/buy-back-pubc644de60). You pick the type of furniture it is, make a judgement of the condition, and it gives you an estimate of the buyback value.

You scan the QR code it gives, then need to take it into a participating store. There will be a physical inspection where the estimate will be reviewed and a final price confirmed

Pricing structure

  • As new – no scratches: 50% of the original price
  • Very good – minor scratches: 40% of original price
  • Well-used – several scratches: 30% of original price

If Ikea accepts your products for resale, you will receive an IKEA refund card for the agreed amount.

Refund cards are redeemable for an unlimited period of time from the date of issue and can be used in store (excluding our Bistro's, Restaurants or Swedish Food Markets) or online, on all products except IKEA Food.

it should be noted, you have to take the furniture back assembled which for most people means hiring/getting access to a van which makes it pointless. You're generally better off selling on market place

Last December we took some Kallax units back. Disassembled in my husband’s Fiesta and he rebuilt them at the store (Manchester).
Took him 45 minutes and we got the As New price plus the bonus.
It was worth it to us.

What do they do with this junk once I’ve sold it back?

Some can be repaired and resold. Others are recycled down or destroyed.

It's cheaper to pay for old stock than to buy new raw materials for some materials.

Honestly, IKEA Manchester made this an absolute nightmare when I moved and had a bunch of stuff I took back, as their increased prices for family card members made it very worth my while. some of the prices in the previous offer were close to what I paid for it to begin with. Priced it up online and they didn't have their computer system set up to accept the buybacks properly, so they had to manually re-enter everything with me reading out the prices and the item numbers one by one... Then disagreed with their own price despite the email stating it was valid 30 days as well. I ended up getting a manager involved politely who begrudgingly agreed. Wouldn't recommend it at all.

IKEA replaced their refund policy in the UK sometime during COVID with this buyback scheme.
Now, if you need to return something inside the usual window (2-4 weeks) IKEA just try to get you to sell it back to them for less money instead.

Their customer service has really gone downhill in the past few years.

They still have a 365 day policy though?

    Can't find your product?

Unfortunately, we are not able to buy back our full range of furniture. IKEA Buyback & Resell is just one way to give your furniture a second life. If it is time to retire your furniture, please consider other recycling options or donating it to charity. We reserve the right to amend the products we accept and the prices we offer through our Buyback & Resell service.

basically don't make the trip if your product is not on the list
I have vimle footstool and a poang chair, was hoping to sell back, but nope (edited)

How can we buy the stuff second hand? Without doing all the buy back stuff.

Go instore to their 'circular hub' and you'll find these items. I sold back a trofast unit and by the time I had finished looking around the store and gone to the Circular hub at the end, my trofast was already out on sale!
This was Milton Keynes store so not sure where the other stores have their or what they may call them

I’ve noticed they’ve dramatically cut their buy back list. Our besta tv bench is no longer listed.

This idea is brilliant. Went to Milton Keynes branch this week in search of a computer desk… went to the sale section near the tills and found the same desk I was going to pay £215 for, for £40 and it looked new!

Weirdly the ikea buy back was still over £100… (edited)
