Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic.
Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… or more violent means.

  • A striking setting: From forests and meadows, to snowy plains and desert lava fields, the Pacific Northwest is both beautiful and lethal. Explore a variety of mountains, caves, mines and small rural towns, scarred by millions of years of volcanic activity.
  • Brutal encounters: With vicious gangs and hordes of Freakers roaming the land, you’ll need to make full use of a variety of customizable traps, weapons, and upgradable skills to stay alive. Don’t forget your Drifter bike, an invaluable tool in a vast land.

4115998-fJIvk.jpg
  • An ever-changing environment: Jump on the saddle of Deacon’s trusty motorbike and explore a dynamic world dramatically affected by the weather, a dramatic day/night cycle and the evolving Freakers, who adjust to their surroundings – and the people in it.
  • A compelling story: Lose yourself in a powerful tale of desperation, betrayal and regret, as Deacon St. John searches for hope after suffering a deep, personal loss. What makes us human when faced with the daily struggle for survival

This is a great game at the right price- where you can do as much as you care to, then move on.

The open world is great- the length far longer than most gamers would need. The story is fine - an old school love story that harks back to the 1980s (hence why certain review outlets trashed the game). The gameplay is OK, and some of the zombie gimmicks quite a thing to behold.

The reason unbiased gamers had issue with the game was that the game as planned was very different than the game as released (like Dying Light 2), and an experienced gamer will note all the compromises and changes that were made in the last year of development to get the game out of the door. These changes definitely impacted the ambition of the gameplay- the faction system really being dialed back storywise (just as happened with DL2).

But as a straightforward open world game, the world has great visuals and design, the cut-scenes earnestly tell a unique story, and my only issue was how drawn out everything seemed- would have liked the story mode to have been perhaps 30% faster- like a film of 2 hours that you wish had the same story in 90mins.

PS the bike mechanic I really liked, but you must use it in the spirit of the game design, not against it.

Sony def missed a trick deciding not to allow a sequel to be made.

I'll never get over this. Bend did an amazing job for their first AAA game, and quite an ambitious one at that given their smaller size, but because it didn't get the blockbuster hype and critical reception of some of their other AAA games, Sony threw them under the bus and put them on Naughty Dog support studio duties instead of giving them a second crack at a Days Gone sequel. I know Bend is supposedly working on something else new themselves now, but it's apparently gonna be one of their 'live service' games that Sony has invested super heavily in for this generation. Massively disappointing.

And I wouldn't want to be a Sony studio working under these new conditions, honestly, unless you're working for a 'chosen one' developer like Naughty Dog with a blank check. (edited)

Very boring game. Lots of open world tropes and lots of sneaking around in perfectly high grass waiting for people to turn their backs for stealth kills.

Very boring review. It plays like an open world game because it is an open world game- which means it gives the player freedom of choice- an advantage that obviously distresses a class of gamer that needs to be always told what to do.

As for 'stealth'- that is one option of gameplay, but there are many others as usual. If you hated stealth, why on Earth did you use it?

Think it got a bad rap for the way it first released. Was in a bad state.

I played about half and I really wanted to enjoy it , but visually it hurt my eyes (I think because of the ps4's checkerboard upscaling, I really didn't like it), the state of performance/bugs at release, and the filling up the bike all the time.

Thankfully I've been waiting for the price to drop so I can truly enjoy it on PC 😁

I didn't buy the game for this price (I paid £14 a while back), but its worth throwing £7 at, i really enjoyed the gameplay and story line. (edited)

My favourite game of the year - I got it in 2021, once they'd ironed out all the teething problems that are now standard fare for modern triple A titles. Completely blown away by it. I just wish I didn't have to play it at 30fps on the Ps4 Pro.

Ah might have to pick it up to stick on the deck. Played about 10-20hrs on the PlayStation but I’m sure I got bored with some fast travel / motorbike limitations which made pick up and play a bit of a chore.

At first I liked this game, but after a few weeks I found it too repetitive, the zombies were all the same, looking after your friend is like caring for a child and the story is a bit boring. So after about 2.5 weeks of playing quite a lot, I gave up on it. It was pirated, so It didn't cost me anything.

One game that is truly underrated, clearly a marmite title as you can see by the comments in this thread. Personally I loved it in every way and am extremely disappointed there's no sequel in development
    Somersett's avatar
    Somersett
Not every story needs a sequel- indeed sequelitis often ruins one's feeling about the original. The gameplay in Days Gone got the job done, but was hardly remarkable. And the original game was very long- longer than even those that liked the game wanted.

Why punish the devs by making them work on a sequel when they could tell a different story with new gameplay elements?

Game has serious pacing issues, consequence of its turbulent development, but it was a lot of fun.

On the original PS4 it had some performance issues... once you upgrade the bike enough it goes too fast and the console struggles to load the environment.

Yeah, this was a major problem. I found a fix for it though - repairing the PS4 database. I was playing on the Pro though, so imagine it would be even worse on the basic PS4.

Trying to buy this but transaction failed twice, once through paypal, once as guest with credit card. Any idea whats up?

We regret that we are unable to process your order. We are not able to tell you specifically why the order failed, but it could be due to one or more of the following reasons:

    • We are unable to confirm your payment
    • The code you are purchasing is region-restricted
    • A technical error occurred while completing the transaction

James Stephanie Sterling says: "...it's up and down, I think a lot of people are going to have a lot of fun with it if they can deal with its annoyances. And that's Days Gone, it's fine, it's alright."

Jim/Stephanie also basically hates any AAA game as a rule. I wouldn't give their opinion some heavy weighting personally, unless you're also of that 'all AAA games suck' mentality. (edited)

Would like to buy this but the worst website I have ever seen. Tried 4 times with different cards / paypal / browsers / internet connection. Each time transaction verifies fine, is deducted from the card in the app, but then instead of sending the key they reject the transaction and refund the card.

Absolutely bizarre. Support say there is nothing they can do - they can't tell why it has failed. Has anyone been able to buy this? (edited)
