This is an absolute bargain - Audible has its regular price at £59.99. But for the princely sum of £2.99, you get almost 88 hours of Orwell’s writing. Down and Out in Paris and London is worth the price on its own.YMMV.

This audiobook includes unabridged recordings of all George Orwell's greatest works: six novels, three books of non-fiction, a collection of his most well-renowned essays and the complete collection of his poetry.

1984 - Winston Smith begins to rebel against Big Brother's totalitarian control and falls in love with fellow worker Julia but soon discovers the true price of freedom is betrayal.

Animal Farm - revolution is afoot for the animals at Manor Farm, and Mr Jones must pay the price.

Down and Out in Paris and London - Orwell recounts his London tramping exploits in Paris and London with a cast of colourful characters.

The Road to Wigan Pier - vivid descriptions of social injustice, cramped slum housing, dangerous mining conditions, squalor, hunger and growing unemployment create a searing account of working-class life in the bleak industrial heartlands of Yorkshire and Lancashire in the 1930s.

Burmese Days - John Flory, a white timber-merchant in 1920s Burma, sets out to untangle societal conventions and help Dr Veraswami save his reputation.

Homage to Catalonia - having enlisted to fight for an anti-Stalinist communist party in Spain, Orwell is soon forced to flee the country and here discusses the destructive nature of Soviet communism.

Coming Up for Air - in search of a simpler life, George Bowling escapes London and an impending sense of war to return to his childhood village.

Keep the Aspidistra Flying - Gordon Comstock quits his advertising job to pursue the creative life in opposition to 'the money god'. Only his ever-faithful Rosemary can rouse him from the stupor and challenge his commitment to his chosen way of life.

A Clergyman's Daughter - intimidated by her father, the rector of Knype Hill, Dorothy performs her submissive roles of dutiful daughter and bullied housekeeper. Her thoughts are taken up with the costumes she is making for the church school play, until her routine shatters and Dorothy finds herself down and out in London.

Essays: a wide-ranging selection of Orwell's essays, through which he ranges from reflections on his boyhood schooling and the profession of writing to his views on the Spanish Civil War and British imperialism.

Poetry: the complete collection of Orwell's published poetry.

The full list of narrators include: Jonathan Keeble, Peter Noble, Leighton Pugh, Malk Williams, Karen Cass, Jonathan Oliver, Hugh Kermode and Roger May.

If you buy this, do you need a paid subscription to listen to it?

Not sure what Toneluck is on about Malento

I have alot of audible audiobooks 2-300 I have been using audible for years. Often using free £10 loyalty vouchers or buying audiobooks I already own on kindle for £2-3 often audible do a audiobook sale where books range from £1.99-£2.99

Once you purchase that audiobook you own it and can listen to it whenever you wish on the audible app

You DO NOT require to have an active audible subscription to listen to it.

I often pause or cancel my subscription in order to get the £3.99/month audible membership deal so can 100% guarantee that once you have purchased the audiobook you do not have to have an audible membership to listen to it,

    Experience - audible member on/off since 2019.

This deal is for members only, showed as 59.99 for me, joined up for 99p and then got the 2.99 price

I have never listened to an audiobook, are they good? Also is it downloaded or streamed?

In my opinion audio books will change your life, you'll be able to listen to a book whenever and wherever you like while doing something else. Audible is a subscription that costs £7.99 a month and you get 1 credit to buy any book you like, and that book is yours to keep forever. The audible app allows you to stream or download the book for offline listening.

I used to subscribe, is it possible to get this for a one off payment?
    IamChris's avatar
not without subbing again but if you check topcashback/quidco they usually offer a half price for 3 months deal along with cashback that usually covers the first month. I don't worry about the cashback myself but am subbed pretty much indefintely for half price by cancelling and signing up again ad the end of the the 3 months.

you have to have an active membership.

If you can take the trial, you can purchase for £2.99 and buy another book with your membership.

Who expired the deal? This is still available.

I ripped 1984 and Animal Farm many years ago so it's my payback for being a thief Both are brilliant "listens" and I can't wait to hear more of Orwell's writing.

Top deal, thanks O/P, I didn't want to trawl though 500 books I've no interest in to discover this gem.

Not expired, shows up 2.99 for me and expires in 6 days apparently

also showing 59.99 for me so something in the background must be determining price

Just for clarification, Amazon is offering this free with a 99p 3 month membership of Audible. Does that make sense, and if I rightly interpret the comments above I get to keep it even after the 3 months trial, even if I don't renew membership?
    theRainMan's avatar
    That's correct.

Doh I accidentally bought using an audible credit instead of paying cash so slightly gutted. However still an incredible bargain.

I got too excited, remember to use cash if you buy. (edited)
    gene_parmesan's avatar
You can refund the credit back in your account

Thanks, will add this to my ever growing collection of audiobooks I will never get round to listening to!!

Already have the Stephen fry 1984 & animal farm collection which I haven't gotten around to listening to yet but at £3 I might as well add this to my library, thanks op

I have Richard E Grant reading "Keep the Aspidistra Flying". There's a version of 1984 read by Peter Capaldi too. I've a feeling the readers in this collection may not be of that calibre- could be wrong though.

Thanks very much OP. Great find. I paused my sub as was trying Libby from the library. No where near as much choice as Audible, but of course it’s free. I didn’t realise I could still purchase without an active sub, nice one.
    flintstone's avatar
so if you pause your sub, are you meaning you have access to the daily deals also then ?

No idea why it was expired; it's definitely this price until Saturday 22nd 23.59.

I think it's those that are non-members that are seeing £59.99, maybe the title should be amended to reflect that this deal is only for members.

I've another credit to receive soon, then I'll be taking a break to catch up on all the books I own. Re-join on a 2-4-1 at £3.99 and then stay for another 3 months
  17. Brosh's avatar
Too bad I've already bought all of them individually. This is a solid deal though, honestly. I wish I'd come across it when I was driving 4 hours a day...
  18. freyabo's avatar
If I join, choose these books, then cancel after one month, will I be able to keep them?
    cocomango's avatar
    Yes

2024 to reverse the reality of Animal Farm
  20. jasee's avatar
Has anyone dowloaded the whole set yet? They only allow them to be downloaded in parts and AFAICT, they don't seem to match Up
  21. I_Zebra's avatar
I think they just download a bit of books when you buy them and then download the rest and you open the book. I think it's a good thing this is in parts. People with older kindles with 2gb storage could have problems. There is a table of contents at the front so I'm hoping to be able to access individual books from there.
