    Please don't do it

    Google this paint

The formulation was changed many years ago and it's a terrible paint

    Some people get lucky

I have been doing DIY for 20 years now, this stuff is junk

I want to ask a silly question, I keep having to repaint my shed because we live in Scotland and it's pretty damp all the time... So would a masonry paint work on wood, something to coat it proper... Sorry if that's a stupid question, I find those wood paints not too great.

From experience I never now go near anything described as shed or fence paint as all seem so weak and watery. Anything sold in big 5l pots or tubs seem the worst.

Generally the paints labelled as exterior wood seem to be the ones to go for. I’ve used both cuprinol shades and johnstones garden shades and not saying they are the best they’ve also largely stood up much better for me (central Scotland).

Can this tin be sprayed, or does it need to be watered down, or the more expensive sprayable version bought? I've got a parkside sprayer I was hoping to test out. (edited)

It does say that it's not suitable for spraying but I watered it down and it went on fine - I did need 3 coats when spraying bare wood with the watered down ducksback (as opposed to 2 coats using a brush for the other side of the fence) but it took a total of 2.5 hours spraying, with gaps for drying time, compared to 10 hours painting. I used the same amount of paint for spraying 3 coats as I did when I used 2 coats and a brush. (edited)

I have to agree with our fellow hukd member above, we used this paint last year and after a bit of rain and despite having multiple coats its run off in huge sections.

It isn't a isolated incident either it's done the same over different parts of wood despite prep work being done too.

    It's 5 minute paint not 5 years.

Been using this paint for years now. Just a little touch up each year is enough for the season

Much prefer the shades range, as people have said it looks awful after a few months. Done 22 panels in Black Ash a few years ago and only had to do the odd touch up in that time. Obviously bit more expensive but actually lasts longer and looks better.

said a hundred times before ....no way this ..or the ronseal stuff...or any 'waterbased' stuff...lasts 5 years ...it just wont ...argued with both companies and got vouchers for more of it!

if you dont mind touching up every year it's fine (edited)

What would you recommend for preventing rot? Will be using it on the inside of a sleeper retaining wall. Looking at barrettine creocote (edited)

I used this paint in black last Summer on several fence panels in my back garden. Large sections of the panels are now covered in green algae/mould. I've read that it can be scrubbed/rubbed off with 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water. Has anybody tried this, as I'm just thinking that this could also remove the paint underneath as well? If not, are there any other suggestions (I don't particularly want to have to remove all of the paint on the fence panels and then repaint them all)? Thank you.

I normally dilute by 10% and spray on. I used it a few weeks ago and it looks fine- however these were tins I had in my garage which I bought a couple of years ago. I painted my fence with it 3 years ago and looks good although will need a bit of touching up. Are people saying that the formula has changed recently?

Is it just me or is this stuff not as good as it used to be?

Haha your right there. Everything is up and maybe this is not as high as it could. But some ones comments about 5 minutes up and not lasting 5 years has put me off as I used the cheap Wickes one a couple of years ago which was maybe 12 for double the volume and that has come off. I think its the reduction of VOC which is better for the planet which is a good thing, but whatever is in the formula isn't making it last or the test regime is a South side fence in a sunner climate

Can you use this in a paint sprayer thingymibobby?

Is this like tartan paint? So I could paint my walls and it looks like wood?
