Really decent image quality at a low price from Aukey, using Sony IMX323 Sensor. You can buy additional GPS module if you need one.

Emergency & Loop Recording Emergency Recording automatically captures unexpected driving incidents and protects the recordings. Loop Recording allows continuous use by writing over old, unneeded footage.

FHD 1080p Sony Exmor Sensor captures everything in super-sharp full 1080p resolution with a super-wide 170° field of view. It maintains strong performance in low-light conditions for nighttime driving.

Extreme Temperature Operation This camera uses a supercapacitor for greater heat & cold endurance (-30°C – 75°C / -22°F – 167°F) and a longer lifetime than standard battery technology.

Motion Detection With a built-in G-sensor, the dash camera can automatically detect a sudden shake/collision. Connect to the hardware kit or the AUKEY PM-YY (sold separately) to maintain the power supply to your dash camera.

Got a link to the GPS module?

I think there is an exact same model but with the brand name of iZEEKER via Amazon £24.99 and then £5 discount bringing it down to £20

It isn't the same camera even though it looks the same. There is a big difference in quality. I have tried both and the Aukey DR02 is much better in clarity, especially night vision and is the most reliable of about 10 to 15 dashcams I have installed for various friends and family. DR02 is a steal at this price. (edited)

Anyone recommend a Dash Cam where you can live view from an App, even when the car is parked in a driveway? Does such a thing exist?
    TakeMyCash's avatar
Yes. Just be aware that it's costly depending on what exactly you want.

Blackview dashcams are the main choice for this and the absolute best on the market for this kinda tech, they do a number of options with integrated cellular modules or seperate modules. Models like DR590x, 750x or 900x have integrated cellular modules I think, the non-X variants you'd need to buy the CM100 LTE. None of this is cheap.

You will then need to get a sim card for the data connection for the unit to transmit the video over the internet to the app (Blackvue iirc had a deal for £4p/m with Vodafone 40gb p/m it was, not sure if it's still available, but it was only available if you buy the Blackvue units new from certain retailers). Then you have to think about power, how long do you want the device on for after you park? If you want for example 8+ hours you'll have to get dedicated power banks (which Blackvue also do, cost a few hundred ££s) as otherwise it will drain the car battery, and you then have to think if you subsequently drive long enough to recharge those power banks. If you only want it on for an hour or two after you park then you can get away with using the car battery to power that but will need a hardwiring kit.

Here's a review on this dash cam, looks pretty solid for £29.99.

What is the max size memory card is it 32gb if so not a good buy IMHO especially if you are travelling long distances daily.
    captn_wiggles's avatar
I have a 128gb sandisk card in mine that works fine.

Does this include a long enough cable  to get from top of window screen, around edge and down to the USB socket? And does it include cable holders to tack it around the window as in first video?
    Andrew_Smart's avatar
Yes I believe it's 5m, plenty enough for my van which is about as large as vehicles get

(Ideally you'd want to hide it behind trim, so no real need for cable clips. I think it came with a few though)

What do I need to hard wire this device in my car?
    BattleBeast1's avatar
Loads of hardwire kits on Amazon for £10-15....they come with various size piggy back fuse holders, very easy to fit and run wires up pillars etc....I fitted a hardwire kit and a rear cam in 40 mins.
I'd recommend one of the plastic trim tool kits available for a few quid for pushing wires under roof lining and pillars.
    I used this wiring kit...50120102-OgQII.jpg

    No wifi. Cold for me.

I like to instantly download the dashcam footage every time my wife drives the car so that we can sit down in the evening and watch it on the TV, review and I can debrief her on the driving.

Without wifi, it's a pain to get this off the SD card and onto the television.
    Andrew_Smart's avatar
I mean if your TV was made in the past 10 years, it'll support usb storage, so just a usb micro SD reader could do it faster than WiFi could ever transfer?
  9. Tanuki334's avatar
What are the rules in the UK re dashcam footage as it pertains to accidents or vandalism / theft?

    Thanks
    Tank12345's avatar
You have evidence recorded that can be used in court, I would imagine. Make sure the date and time are correct obviously.

    People recall facts
    Cameras record facts

    No WiFi connection
    This.Is.Dog's avatar
Why would you need that? Don't you just download the memory card? Thanks
  11. silver3in's avatar
Does this need an SD or micro SD card?

    micro

Do they joust with each other?
  13. ryanmartin1993's avatar
As above, these fail within a year or so, keep losing the time and can't be fixed. Leads to footage all having the same default date and time meaning you can never find the footage you need without watching it all. Customer service is non existent, don't bother. Unless you're happy to throw it away in a year or so when the fault develops. Bought three of these in family, all failed in same way within 18 months
    mattrixdesign2's avatar
Thanks for this, stopped me from buying one. Don't see the point spending £30 only to bin it in 24 months.

I am on the lookout for a good deal £100 of less, quite like the look of the Garmin Mini (small and simple). I trust Garmin stuff, but some mixed reviews.

I am not interested in Nextbase after my lad had one last Christmas, it was unbelievably erratic with the Android and PC software and we sent it back. Also using ancient USB connectors, which may working fine, but likely obsolete soon and would rather spend time fitting a cable that is to some extent future proof (micro or C type).

And not really wanting WiFi, it's not worth the hassle. Rarely works properly on these kind of devices.

Great price for this quality unit. Can’t get better for this price.

Had this camera for 3 years or so now, it’s been through 2 car write offs and it’s saved me in court for both of them. One was my fault but because the other party was speeding and it was obvious on the cam it went 50/50 and saved me £1000s
  16. BlackHawk's avatar
That's a really good price imo.

my favourite dashcam, I got the rare dual cam version in my car and the audio + video quality is excellent
  19. Thumbnail's avatar
is it front and back camera?
    Andrew_Smart's avatar
Nope, they did do one (Aukey DR02D) but it seems to be discontinued
  20. deleted2919055's avatar
gosh why do they always use ancient USB connectors, do any have USB-C ?
    Andrew_Smart's avatar
This is still a very old design, I bought mine ages ago still going strong.

Also does usb-c on a dashcam matter?
  21. sr_387's avatar
honstely well worth it the amount of crazy drivers ive seen aslong as your in the right and shove video to insurance also dont tell the other driver u have one for reasons
    urbAn's avatar
Why is it a bad idea to tell the other driver that you have a dash cam?
If you tell them that you have a dash cam and they admit their fault to their insurance then you might not even have to go through your own insurance and don't have to pay the excess.
Happened to me once where someone drove into me and admitted the fault, their insurance called me next day and everything (courtesy car and the repair) was done through their insurance.

How does this compare with a recently posted Xiaomi 70mai D06 for £45?
    thecoolguy's avatar
I find this one a bit better. Aukey is a bit older but higher quality.

the Xiaomi has weird voice prompts each time it turns on. but then again its also got an app you can use to access the recordings.
  25. thecoolguy's avatar
    this is the DR02
  26. Steve-O.2008's avatar
Can this one record while you are parked up? Or just when the ignition is on?
    qw3rtyhhng's avatar
It can if it's wired into the right fuse box, as can most dashcams, you'll need the hardwiring kit.
  27. Rambosven's avatar
Anyone know if you can get dash cams that don't need a cigarette lighter and could power via usb instead? (edited)

They don't have a battery in them it's a super capacitor. I used to use an old mobius camera as a dash cam and that battery swelled up. Mines never lost date and time unless left unused for 3 weeks
  29. captn_wiggles's avatar
Have had this camera for a few years now. Great video quality and zero issues. It has no battery so one thing less to worry about wearing out.
  30. buffalobill's avatar
    Has this now expired?
  31. B1000's avatar
The CMOS that stores the time will die on these after a year.

Same happened on Aukey DR01 and the DR02 that I've used. Replacing it is a PITA as its soldered down on the board on both models. And yes its a super capacitor cam apart from that part. (edited)
    Andrew_Smart's avatar
Hasn't happened to me, although I have the dual cam DR02D so might be different internals (still going since 2018)
  32. Giddy01's avatar
Is this cam removable? Does it just leave its mount stuck on the windscreen. Thanks in advance
    Giddy01's avatar
Answered my own question. I watched the review. Thanks op
  33. ajbgatenby1's avatar
Great thanks. Anyone recommend a hardwiring kit so it doesn't take up a USB/12v socket? Many thanks
    ajbgatenby1's avatar
    Kit seems ideal. Thanks.
  34. johnrchilds's avatar
So pardon my ignorance, does this have a rechargeable battery in it, and if so, how long does it last?
    bargain_hunting's avatar
It has battery built-in but doesn't last long + screen very small if you play back videos.
  35. slu79's avatar
Can anyone with this, co firm what plug is on the camera for power, I already have one in car that is a mini usb (the super old type), if this were the same would save me having to re run the cable. Thanks
    Kush.V's avatar
It's the same as you've currently got, mini USB
