These have a good picture but they suck. Software is awful and they get lots of sdcard issues
b4dr1's avatar
Format the SD cards through the camera itself and it has been fine. If not I got one of their SD cards for free and it has been working well too

I got three Nextbase dash cam in my vehicles. Oldest one is nearly 5 years old. Never had any issues with them.

Same here.

REMEMBER 1080p at 60fps is better that 1440p at 30fps. The things you catch on a dash cam are at speed and the faster fps at 1080p will capture number plates whizzing past
jcmaton97's avatar
Can this do both (are you saying remember to change the settings or get a different dashcam?)
4. dmeineck's avatar
Is there a good value service to get these professionally installed?

Not sure how much Halfords is but you could try them. It is very easy to do yourself however

As above, absolutely shocking app. You'll have sold your car by the time the clip you want has downloaded. Mine has also eaten 2 expensive SD cards. This meant it wasn't recording on the one occasion I really needed it.

Awful!

I have the 522GW with rear camera in 3 of my cars all have lots of issues of frezzing it's very unreliable.
Jabaltariq's avatar
Agreed! I have 2, and they're both unreliable.

My car insurance comes to an end on the 20th of this month. Some companies said if i had a dash cam, i would get a lower premium. I put in that i had 1 and my premium dopped by £4.87 over 1 year. Same thing with a tracker

You're better off having a dashcam and not declaring it to your insurer. The discount is almost nothing and you may run into problems if you say you have one but can't/won't provide footage when needed.

Please stay away from Nextbase dash cams. The app is terrible and can take multiple minutes to transfer the data to your device. The SD card support is spotty at best and sometimes the recordings don’t stick. I found out all of this the hard way after a crash when it didn’t start recording when the car was turned on.

This is my biggest worry with my nextbase that it doest work when I need it most. I really need to get around to replacing it but not sure on what else to buy.

have this with the rear cam. H/W no problems,
there is a new firmware update. also you need to be using a fast card. needs to be U3. went with SanDisk 128GB Extreme microSDXC card for Action Cams and Drones + SD adapter + RescuePRO Deluxe, up to 190 MB/s, with A2 App Performance, UHS-I, Class 10, U3, V30 from amazon £22.30 at the moment.

re-fitting. Halfords cost about £30.
but its not that hard. lots of hardware kits on ebay. you get 3 main types. just make sure you know what fuse your car uses. mine turn out be to Mini Blade so had the re order that type.

any ideas what the new firmware does? I've had a look at the site and zip, there's bugger all to say what it's fixing.

What the hell do you ask Alexa to do on this?

Alexa: activate road rage

Nextbase have an absolute dreadful app which they don't care about sadly

Got this a few months ago on ebay for an extra £10. Seems pretty decent and reliable.

Only thing to watch out with this model is if you attach a rear camera, the front camera's 1440p downgrades to 1080p.

Alexa is as much use as a turd on a stick. (edited)

Ordered, thanks. Half price for thearket leasing dashcam. Hope I never need it but worth it with driving standards around town.

My wife had this installed in her car by VW with the rear cam. After a while it reset every time engine cuts out with stop start. Sent it back under warranty for new battery and screen was replaced too. It stopped cutting out for a bit but is back to the same as before. Very temperamental with alternate SD cards even if they exceed required spec. My older Nextbase Duo is much more reliable and takes 3rd party SD cards without a problem.

Sounds like it's been hardwired wrong.

Does anyone leave this in the car 24/7? Or do you normally put it away in your glovebox when not in use?
CyptoHippy's avatar
Parking mode is on 24/7 how on standby comes on impact or vibration. However this feature doesn't work well and causing crashing/frezzing

I have a Nexbase camera that's been in my car since 2015 that I got for £50. It doesn't have an app or Wi-Fi. I'm tempted to upgrade to the next one.

Its seems that buying Nextbase dash cam is a total lottery - some people are very happy with them but then there are a large group of people who are having constant issues with Nextbase dash cams...

I bought Nextbase 422GW three days ago and haven't installed it yet after reading more reviews... done quite a bit of research and it seems that there is no perfect Dash Cam for under £200... 😔

Not sure what to do now... install it and hope that it will work as intended or?

Another Dash Cam which caught my eye is Garmin 47 or Garmin 57 models. In the manual it say that you only have to format the SD card every 6 months, where Nextbase recommend to format every 2/3 weeks... (edited)

Most common issues with Nextbase are wrong spec and cheap quality  memory card.

Mine is fine. Most annoying thing was my car not having a fuse that wasn’t live without ignition. I just take the cam off when it’s parked and haven’t had a problem. Is this company reputable? Can’t believe how cheap this is.

Mine came today, so far so good, just hope it keeps on working.

Tried 1080p 60fps and 1440 30ps , not bothered about using the app.
