I'm guessing this lacks some Kindle features like cloud-sync of the current page across devices?

From what I've read Kindle lacks quite a few features that Kobo has.

Somebody who owns one could probably answer the cloud-sync question.

Kindle not allowing third party apps is the biggest one and my issue. I have a Kindle Paper White, but I'm restricted to Amazon books.

With Kobo you can install BorrowBox to borrow ebooks from the library amongst other things. That is why I'm switching.

Another feature is that this Kobo Libre 2 is waterproof. Apparently you can read underwater for up to 1 hour at up to 2m deep! Though I expect most people just feel more comfortable reading in the bath with this. I've read in the bath with my Kindle, but it isn't waterproof.

The resolution is supposed to be better too compared to Paper White, and the screen is 1" bigger.

I did like my Kindle. It's just a shame I feel like I wasted money on that because they made it so restrictive to Amazon. (edited)

Can you add your own ebooks to this, or does every thing have to be sourced via Kobo? What about pdf's in one's own library? Looking for flexibility.

This is why I'm getting one.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite but I'm stuck with Amazon's book offerings.

I want to borrow Ebooks from the library which I can do with this as they allow various apps.

Kindle don't allow apps like BorrowBox which libraries use. There's a work around for Kindle involving using BorrowBox on PC/phone, removing the protection from the file before sending the file to Kindle, but I don't like the idea of, in effect, Pirating from a library book and Amazon having a receipt of copy wrote book being sent as a random file.

With Kobo I should be able to buy books from multiple sources and, more importantly for me, borrow books from the library. (edited)

This is my usual - "but I still like my Nook from about10 years ago" comment which I regularly put in these e-reader threads.
I must have some kind of weird ancient e-readerfetish.
There's something satisfying fingering the smoothedges of a well-worn old e-reader which you just can't get from these newdevices.

I went from an old Nook to the predecessor to this device. It's such a night and day difference. The Nook is just horrible to use now.

I saw this earlier. Very tempted.

    TopCashBack have 4.25% on devices.

    *edit* Ordered. (edited)

Fyi, was 120 from BT a little while ago.

I wonder if they were clearing stock? Looking at BT now I can't find any kobo devices at all and the link from the last HUKD thread lands on a dead page.

Best reader on the market by a mile.
This was the normal list price till recently when they all put it up by £20, but there's a two year guarantee and free postage from Kobo themselves and it's good value even at list price.

If £20 matters to you, then hang about a bit and there are bound to be offers for £129.99 some time this year when sales are slack. But if you want the best reader now, then just order one

You can get the basic kindle for £84 which is 300dp same as thisi. You can send epub by email or use pc to transfer. Kindle looks more portable too (edited)

Can you transfer Amazon Kindle books to this? Have a ton of free ones I have never read in my Kindle library online and on my tablet.

Big fan of my Kobo reader - over 500 books on it and still going strong. Couple of caveats though, as it’s no longer possible to strip the DRM from Amazon books to use them on the Kobo. There are other ways, including buying a knackered Kindle from eBay.

The other thing to be wary of is the waterproofing, which is anything but. It may survive a very quick dunk in the bath if you grab it quickly, but whatever they use to protect the electronics is susceptible to the chlorine used in swimming pools, so even a splash is enough to see it off. Buyer beware etc.

Other than that I really recommend.

I followed a youtube guide using an older version of Calibre - was expecting to need an old Kindle (I have one) serial number (I didn't though) and it works fine. had to add the kepub input/output plugins to get the kepub format option (don't think you do with the newer version of Calibre) (edited)

Decent deal, altho I prefer the larger screen of the Aura One. Well at least I know I like the 7.8" screen of the One. My wife should like this Libra 2.
It seems the Libra 2 is a decent books reader, it will be interesting to see how the hardware buttons work when changing pages. They should be useful.
USB-C as well, gets a bit "old" having to find a Micro cable and ensuring it is the right way round.

Not that it is related at all but our old Nook readers, no lights, are still going strong.....lol.

Thanks for the deal OP and heat added.

Just ordered a case from Amazon. (edited)
