I inherited one of these. Much quicker than my i3 surface go 3 which is also 8Gb (although I do love the small form factor of the go).

For both I went to CEX and picked up B grade Surface keyboards for £20 (Alicante’s for the go and plain black plastic for the SP5) .

They were spotless and pretty much looked new. Gave them a really good clean. They are great keyboards.

You can pick up good pens from Amazon such as the Renaisser pens for around £30. I have a surface pen and a Renaisser. Pretty much as good as each other.

The 520C is on sale at the moment when you tick save 10%. It is rechargeable and has an ‘eraser’ on the top. Their other models only let you erase via the button.

For anyone buying this, I’d bought a SP4 8gb from a previous deal on here, and super happy with it.
I’d set up a discussion about art packages, gaming, helpful info etc for others that bought a SP so posting link here if it helps

    Awesome thanks 😁
Do you have any recommendations for pens?
I want a tablet I can use to take notes on using a pen

I bought one of these about a month ago. It had no physical signs of wear. The screen is great. I am getting about 4 - 5 hours of use from the battery. I guess this is going to be a bit of a lottery as it depends on how much use the one that they send you has had. I asked them to install Windows 11 on mine which I think is a worthwhile upgrade. Delivery took about ten days. I am very pleased with it overall.

Is this the version with the flickering screen?
    Kyliehogg's avatar
No - that was the SP4 (I have both a 4 and two 5s — and the 4 has the screen flicker ).

Got one of these in a previous deal and very happy with it replacing my SP4 that only has 4Gb RAM. Suggest ppl dig those threads out for info.

As soon as you choose any Windows option the price jumps up…?? Not possible to add to basket without choosing an option.

128gb, windows 10, no keyboard, no stylus with discount code makes it the price in the title

A random question from someone who's never gone anywhere near one of these previously but is tempted. Can these charge via the usb slot? (I have a 65w one plus charger).
    Thanks
    russelkhan's avatar
No they can't. Maybe the later models with USB-C can. (edited)

Despite their age, they are a brilliant tablet. Battery is the only issue as it’s a pain to change, but there are people that can replace them, and whilst it’s stripped down you can get the SSD upgraded. I’ve got a I7 SP4 and a I7 SP6 and I still rate the 4. The 5 at this price point is a great buy.
    plewis00's avatar
It’s extremely hard to replace them and as good as not possible as you have to get the very thin glass screen off and Microsoft were liberal with the glue. It can be done but likely uneconomical.

Bought one when it was on sale for £140. Happy with it, chose to exchange the first one they sent me as the screen was covered in white blemishes but the replacement was fine. It's a bit of a lottery with these ex corporate devices.

    Any good for uni work?

    Great find thanks
  12. russelkhan's avatar
Yes the battery life can be terrible, and the specs are nothing to write home about, but the screen is glorious. 267 ppi and 450 nits of brightness (according to Anandtech). I take one with me when I'm away for more than a week. It's not much use on the go (due to the battery life) but when plugged in it makes a great little portable PC. It can run Windows 11 too (but not officially supported).

i completely agree i bought one from a previous deal £200 and it turned out to be completely as new, i run w11 on it as well, my battery does a good 4 hours .

    Wasn't this £140 here recently

    hotukdeals.com/dea…010

Maybe it will come back down to that price
    cottontop74's avatar
The price doesn;t appear to have changed its just that old deal had a 20% voucher on it compared to the current 10% voucher...
  15. shillstomper's avatar
Is this better than an Honor Pad 8?
    Soni84's avatar
absolutely a 100 times. Don't buy Honor, it's for children.

Will a surface pro 4 keyboard work with this?
    JGiles's avatar
Yes should do as far I’m aware the keyboards haven’t been changed between generations
  17. MIDURIX's avatar
The screens on these are great. I had a HP elite X2 and the resolution and screen brightness just can't be beaten for the price. Battery life and poor keyboard though.

If purchasing a Win 10 version can you not update to Win 11?
    russelkhan's avatar
Officially no, but if you Google it you can find workarounds for getting Win11 installed. (edited)

Amazon fire tablets are terrible, how does this compare? Need something for my 5 year old.
    wassap's avatar
I wouldn’t buy it for a 5 year old. The Amazon HD tab was pretty good imo. You want something android based for a kid imo.

I’ve got the SP4 i5 5600 4gb version. Will this one be noticeably faster?
    russelkhan's avatar
The extra 4GB of RAM makes a difference, especially when you have lots of browser tabs and several programs running at the same time. I had a 4GB SP4 too and this one definitely feels more responsive.
  21. tapi's avatar
Strange that it's offering win11 as an option, as its unsupported
    stephenlamb's avatar
I asked them to install Windows 11 on mine and it is fine. I understand that it is not officially supported but it works very well.
  22. laticslegend's avatar
Is this powerful enough to run a game like Football Manager 2023 with no issues?
    castledine11's avatar
I've not played FM for some time but I'd say it'd be pretty capable if you didn't really have any of the visuals and kept the database of players relatively small. Do take that with a pinch of salt.
  23. castledine11's avatar
Has anyone put Linux on this? Thinking it may be good as a Kali setup.

My order recently arrived and my advice is to not buy keyboard or stylus with this deal. Thought I would save time looking and surely the condition couldn't be that bad but it was genuinely shocking. I would note the Surface itself seems in good condition yet to inspect or test it any further than a quick look.
  25. Obd's avatar
Received my surface yesterday and condition was great. No marks on the screen and minor marks on corners. Ran battery report which is 62% remaining with 198 cycle counts. Can anyone advise whether this is actually good battery condition given its age or worth asking for a replacement?
