50343661-D7vZR.jpghats exactly what ive done with my gravel bike. Brooks B17 narrow in brown plus the matching bar tape (noting that Brooks brown bar tape is not actually an exact colour match for the brown saddle).

I've had two of these and they both got stolen within a couple of months in london. How do you guys secure it from being stolen?
    sprayengo's avatar
I drop solder in the allen key holes (saddle, seatpost and handlebar stem). They can’t get an allen key in there any more. Never had them stolen.

I’m sure they COULD if they really wanted to but its all about making it less convenient for them so they move on to the next bike sadly.

When you want to remove the solder, you need to hold a soldering iron on there for a long time but eventually it does dribble out. I don’t change stuff hardly at all so for me I just leave the solder in there.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but my Brooks B17 that I bought a couple of years ago is still as rock solid as it was when I bought it. I've ridden something like 6000-7000km on it, which surely should be more than enough to break it in. I followed the instructions about applying the leather balm. Over time, I've become used to using a rock hard saddle, but I wouldn't say it's more comfortable than the cheap Decathlon saddle that it replaced. I can't see any evidence of it having moulded to my sit bones or softened at all. It's solidly made and nice looking though.

Did anyone who ordered this receive it with the brooks spanner? Mine was missing
    R4L3p's avatar
No spanner with mine, just came in a plastic bag with a paper envelope containing a small sachet of proof hide. I think I read that spanner’s don’t come with the saddles anymore but I’m not certain about that. Happy with mine for the price paid.

I have used this for 20+ years (first one lasted 15 and second one is going strong). Brooks saddles are one of the few 'authentic' products out there (love em or hate em...). IF you get on with them they are a joy.

This is a great price for a classic. The riveting is done really nicely and over a few rides the leather shapes to your shape exactly. You can't really be a weight weenie at 510g, but my beer and curry habit renders the difference of a few grams completely irrelevant. They are the only thing I can stay comfortable on all day - my legs give up first! Use the brooks saddle cream very sparingly indeed - I give it a rub if a wet weather ride has seen it completely soaked (once dry again). If it seems unforgiving at first there is the trick of treating the underneath of the saddle just the once. No real idea if it helps but you instantly join the 'Brooks insider aficionado' club for dedication. B17 is the go to if you are more touring than racing.

I have never ridden one, I always use saddles with the cut out down the middle. How are they for longish rides?

"I was right about that saddle" for those old enough to remember the TV advert

My black was delivered today, it was quick.

Brilliant saddles. The most comfortable ones I have ever ridden

They still have a small factory in Smethwick

Ordered always wanted the classic, but for this price, I'm willing to risk it with this model.

    Legendary saddles.

Which means they are bang ordinary with a good backstory.

I ordered a black & brown swift. Ribble cancelled my order a few days later, not happy!
    Jim1_Smith's avatar
Good ol Ribble! Did they give you a decent reason as to why they cancelled?

You bet you comfy @55 you will get some heat

Anyone have any experience of the swift compared t the B17 for comfort?
    AverageBloke's avatar
I find that my B17 is better for longer days in the saddle, like touring and 200k Audaxes.

    Great saddle for squeeky farts.
    DominicPTS's avatar
I prefer wet chundery farts. I guess this isn't the saddle for me then 🫣
  16. w0nky's avatar
I've not seen the swift model before, anyone got any first hand experience. Love my b17 but saddle shape matters
    MilkTheFrog's avatar
Think it's a bit more road oriented. The more aggressive your position on the bike, the flatter the saddle needs to be. B17 is generally for pretty upright riding so quite curved.
  17. mikax7x's avatar
Would this fit on a Brompton?
    MrPfister's avatar
I have it on mine, after the initial break in period it's sublime
  18. hempzane's avatar
Not a fan of the style myself. But I’m sure they comfy as. Have a look at the factory tour it’s a good watch

I'm new to cycling. Is this suitable for longer rides on my road bike?

Probably the only saddle that's better than a Charge Spoon.
    jbonthe's avatar
Charge Spoon would be wore out when a Brooks was just worn in.

Seat can take a bit to break in but great after that

Used the normal Brooks wide assed one for ~ 13 yrs and is v comfy (molds to your bum quite well), looks great (bit paranoid someone will swipe it if you have a quick release though), and still going strong (bit of rust/ tarnish on sign and springs but works v well still). Good price if you want a leather one that'll probably last ages. Not sure about comfort on this version/ sweat etc but would deffo recommend the normal one for relaxed cycling
  23. Danny_Cherry's avatar
Can anyone recommend leather care product for this?

Only black left in stock. Just feels wrong using a brooks that isn't brown/honey (edited)
