there was Lenovo Legion 5 with i7-12700H and 3070Ti, 16GB DDR5 and 512GB SSD available for £930 few weeks ago

Be careful with this laptop. I had 2 of them which had bad cooling, manufacturing defect. Insane high temps racing 90 and fan noise on silent mode literally turbo.

Most of lenovo gaming laptops are like that….not a surprise here

Is this a good deal for casual gaming or worth holding on for better deals as prices seem to be dropping
    fishmaster's avatar
This is more than good enough for casual gaming. It was better to buy a laptop 6+ months ago as the prices have risen. There should be a correction regardless, also the world moves towards an ever increasing chance of global recession. Just keep topping up your Index Funds monthly and buy when you need. If you need now and can use now then by the time a price drop happens you will still have utilised time. Time is the currency of life it can't be bought. Remember want is != to need. Very important! Need is the operative word.

11th gen intel needs more discount to be considered hot

That CPU is more than ample for gaming without being a bottleneck, it’s a good pairing.

Having the dedicated RTX 3070, would this be better for Topaz Gigapixel etc, and Topaz video programmes than Intel® Iris® Xe graphics? Also for Spectral music programmes. (edited)

"On the GPU side, however, things are not as clear-cut. The NVIDIA GeForce 30- and 40-series cards were consistently very good, especially in Gigapixel AI. On the other hand, the AMD Radeon 6900 XT did extremely well in Sharpen AI and Video AI, often matching or beating even more expensive GPUs from NVIDIA.

Intel was a mixed bag, giving impressive performance in Sharpen AI, but also wasn’t able to complete our tests at all in Gigapixel AI without crashing. This keeps us from recommending Arc for Topaz AI in general, but this is likely due to a 1st generation product bug that will hopefully get resolved with a simple driver update."

No idea for Spectral Music composition. You would need to provide a list of Spectral music programs you plan on using.

its not a bad chip. But the problem is the 12th Gen i7-12700H is significantly better and has been on sale numerous times for lower price than this

If laptop top prices had not been artificially jacked up over the last six months this old gen world be selling for £800 to £850.

Nice spec and good price way out of my budget and happy with the earlier Legion deal for 595£ (edited)

What was the earlier Legion deal for £595? I can't find any trace of it!
  12. Allan_'s avatar
Probably a pricing error. Someone should snap that up.

QHD IPS screen too! Dam thats good.

+ Good quality and performance at this price. Will easily last a nice couple of years playing at high quality.

Would have considered this if it wasn't for the permanent ice blue backlight on the keyboard. To not offer RGB on a gaming laptop of this caliber is insane imo.
    Forecaster's avatar
For many people this would end up being a work machine as well, especially considering its restrained design compared to other gaming laptops.
Wouldn't want any RGB on that.

There was one at CCL for £923.18. Is CCL a good dealer?
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
