Popped into my local boutique at the weekend to enquire about a service on my 300m seamaster chrono. £800 and they’d have my watch for 6 months. Apparent,y a watchmaker shortage due to brexit! lol

That's exactly why I'm done with automatic watches. They are a constant financial burden. Inexpensive brands like Orient are fine, as you can just never service them, but if you commit to a £3000+ automatic, expect a hefty maintenance bill.

They have long yarned for the Rolex prestige/desire and have now started a campaign to achieve a more premium status.

The 007 2019 watch cemented this in my mind. £9200 for a stripped back Seamaster. Thats a straight shot across the bow to the retail price of a Sub. That was Omega's first non precious metal one to go blow for blow pricing wise. It's one of my favourite omega's made in fairness, for my personal tastes it's beautiful. Along with the 1960's waffle dial Seamaster's and the asteroid dark/gray side of the moon Speedmaster', it's up there in my top watches.

Sadly for Omega fan's I think this is start of a long upwards trend to catch up to Rolex pricing.

What a ridiculous price, I just picked up a pristine speedy mark iii (early 70s) for £2599

Sorry to say this, but it’s ugly and the price is ridiculous.

This Seamaster 300 vintage looks way better:

Great for me as I splash around the shallow end of our local swimming pool. Then off I go to drive my massive 4x4 on the tarmac. Gotta be prepared.

I bought my Seamaster 300m Professional Chronograph in 2009 for under £2k. I know that was 14 years ago, but they are now pushing £8k - that is not just inflation, Omega have put in some serious prices rises over those years. Crazy prices now.

It's not just omega. Watches have surged in recent years. They're on a downwards now. In five or so years, would expect them to normalise.

There was a time I could buy a grey market speedy for $2000, there was nearly $2 to the £, even with the import fee it was a wonderful time. Don't like the watch, reluctant to heat it, although it looks like a deal if the list price is that high.
