These are good fun but the seat in the front is next to useless. The back of the seats are supported by a seat belt line and the inflatable seat just folds on itself if you lean back, say when rowing. So yeah, great idea but flawed in execution as one of you will only enjoy it for half an hour or so before your back is breaking.

I haven't found this to be the case. Paddled for hours in the front. Need to make sure the straps are tightened and the person behind can help you do this. Front seat has usually been good for us (edited)

Any advice in cheap but safe buoyancy aids?

Also do these tend to capsize? Will be taking it on Bridgewater canal and really don't want to swim in it. (edited)

Personally I wouldn’t buy buoyancy aids I’d buy proper life jackets. And an automatic one at that. All a buoyancy aid does is float you to the surface so if you’ve banged your head and you’re unconscious then that would be face down! A true life jacket will lift your head out of the water and support it.

How's the back support on these?
    londonstinks's avatar
I have a bit of a dodgy lower back and found the seats to be very comfy, you can really sinch them to be upright or you can lean back a fair bit, lots of different levels of back support is what I'm saying. (edited)

Great deal. I got mine from amazon France a while back, and it's been great. As @kcajjones says, the seat isn't the best, but for getting into kayaking and letting the kids paddle around, it's been great. I'd definitely recommend for this price!

I have one of these and for the money they are excellent. Obviously best on canals and lakes (if not choppy) but I’ve also had it in the sea with no problem.

Not the same model but I have the intex challenger. Slightly more expensive but a great kayak. I haven't had any issues with back support. Stays inflated. Exceptionally stable

I got two of these the other year. Be warned, they weigh a ton, deflated - they're (understandably) made of thick, tough material. If you have to lug one down a beach when the tide is out you'll be too knackered to paddle anywhere!

carried ours a mile down the road, never again

I think these are great. Love to get one if I was located closer to a river or lake. Heat.

They're not bad, not a serious kayak though, the paddles are awful and so is the pump

Isn’t going to be serious for £93 is it

I've heard these are good for crossing the canals in Birmingham. If you know, you know.

I took mine on a canal this weekend for the first time. Two of us, both 90kg+. Very stable, easy to steer and we also unintentionally stress tested it. My buddy kicked the bottom valve out and deflated it by 75%, if anything it worked better being lower in the water. Great bit of kit at this price.

Great bit of kit. Used on Wye river and River Arun last month. ( Both of which don't require any kind of license on most of the river)
    dimihotuk's avatar
Is there any good websites to search rivers you can kayak on and whether you need to license or not?

    Looks like a banana boat.

These are utter sht, please don’t waste your money - plastic is thin, paddles are useless and takes forever to inflate, even with an electric pump. I’m really surprised with the positive reviews and only posting to counter and give you a proper warning.
Wouldn’t even use one in a swimming pool, never mind the sea - unless you want a ride with the RNLI.

In the interest of balance, my experience of this kayak is great. For the price it's so much fun. Know it's limitations and use accordingly.
Genuinely the material is quite rugged, doesn't take me long to inflate with the supplied pump and the paddles do actually make it move in the water.

Just don't go in the sea with one of these. Folk have been rescued when something's gone wrong and the thing deflates...
