UPDATE: I ordered it on Monday & received it today on Thursday! Nice surprise!

Steam Docking Station on sale, for anyone who was waiting for it to drop in price:

Dock FAQ What does Docking Station come with? The box comes with a Docking Station and power supply (same as the one we ship with Steam Deck).

Will it work with my monitor / TV / controller / random peripheral? We’ve done extensive testing and have confirmed compatibility with a wide range of displays and peripherals. That said, there are thousands of displays and accessories in the world, so there’s a chance we missed it. If Docking Station is not compatible with your setup, please let us know in the forums so we can add support.

Will using Docking Station increase the performance of Deck? No, the Station provides charging and connectivity, but no additional performance benefits.

I'm having some issues with my Docking Station, where can I get help? You can visit our Docking Station Support FAQ here, get in touch with Support here, or visit the Steam discussion forums here.

Will there ever be updates for the Dock? Just like the Steam Deck, there will be ongoing support and improvements; you may experience a firmware update out of the box. Performing this update is as simple as plugging your Steam Deck in and going through the installation wizard.

Can Docking Station be used without a power supply? Yes, Docking Station will function without a power supply, but the USB ports will have reduced throughput to conserve power due to the limited output power capabilities of the Steam Deck.

Can I use any USB-C dock with my Deck or do I need to get the official Docking Station? You can use any dock you like. The work we've done to make Steam Deck and Docking Station compatible extends to other third party hubs and docks.

I was actually all for getting the official dock but the more I read about it the more I convinced myself there was no benefit to having the official dock over a third party one, the long delivery time also put me off ordering one. To test my theory I dug out a USB C hub that I had laying around and had a play with that and it worked perfectly, it did everything I needed a dock to do but just in a really inconvenient form factor.

In the end I went with the option below for £17.99 and it works perfectly, there's nothing it doesn't do that I need it to do and the only connectivity it's missing over the official dock is Display Port which I wouldn't be needing anyway. I've never used the official dock so can't comment if it works differently to a third party one or not though. I have two minor gripes with my third party dock but neither is a showstopper. 1) you need to place the deck off centre in the dock to keep the rear vents clear 2) the ethernet connection is on the side not the back so cable management will be more messy if you use this port but I don't use it anyway.

Gotta say... The official steam deck dock is awful. A good percentage of the time the screen doesnt come on with tv/monitor attached. I wish I'd got a basic dock instead of getting it at launch (I think it was £69.99 then). I'd recommend saving yourself a few bob and get a non official one because it cant be much worse than the official effort. It was delayed and delayed and I dont know why as they clearly were not troubleshooting the thing.

What you meant to say was : A good percentage of the time the screen doesnt come on with tv/monitor attached FOR ME .....

    I've never had that problem..

I paid £40 for a decent JSAUX and the Valve Dock includes charger too so think this is good price. Do I need another dock though… 🤷‍♂️

Note if you put a case on it will not fit in this charger.

I don't understand these designs. They expect ppl to take of the case everytime you want to Dock?? A smart design should allow any size case to dock (edited)

I have one of these and quite like it. I have it connected to my TV about 2m away but have hidden all the cables in trunking etc. Looks super neat and turns it into a display piece almost (I have it on its own cubby hole in a shelving unit).

Per other people's comments, the big downside is you cannot put it in *any* case. It fits incredible snugly. It's really for people who never take their deck out the house.

Jsaux mod case comes with a cover for the official dock so that you can use it with the case on

If I buy any dock, can I use the standard Steam Deck charger to get the maximum charging time or I need another one?

Also, I hate not being able to know whether the Steam Deck is charging just by looking at a LED. It was that difficult for Valve to put a light being green for fully loaded and yellow for charging? Any dock having this feature?

Is a half finished product release. Will add this to this list of reasons to wait for a v.2 that is more complete with the basic essentials included. Glad I didn't invest in being an early adopter, but the potential here is huge.

    Way overpriced, even on sale.

Given it comes with a second official charger/power cable (£24.99 on ifixit, before delivery) I think this is just about good value for money over the cheaper alternatives.

I have no desire to dock my Steam Deck, but if I did this would be the only one I’d get, if just for the continued firmware updates and support from Valve.

Would this fit the superior Asus Rog?

My two penneth worth. Bought a 256 SD in 10% sale earlier this year. Got a 3rd party from Amazon dock.
All worked great, no major issues.
Decided I wanted the 512 with the anti glare screen, the screen protector had wasn't cutting it for me. Bought a 512 SD from flea bay that had an official dock with it. This also worked with no issues!

Nota Bene: Both times I had the dock/s plugged into a hdmi switcher, specifically the LABGEAR HDS5K, into my TV. I have a whole bunch of stuff plugged in with my set up and I'm used to stuff not exactly working like I think it ought to, but SD is fine, both docks I've had even start up the game mode on my tv.

I sold on the official dock with my original 256 SD as I couldn't really justify keeping it as I don't need two docks. The extra official valve SD PSU was a massive bonus, the little usb c power cable has a really nice feel to it, and the deck sits nicely without blocking the rear vents. But overall and as I already had a dock at this point I sold it on.

This is a worthwhile read about JSAX and Steam Accessories

    theverge.com/237…ing

TLDR: It looks like they worked with the Steam community to to spit out some decent accessories at amazing prices is a short space of time!

I just need stock to appear in the sale now!

I looked around for ages for a dock for when I travel and got this one. aliexpress.com/ite…SCG. Works great and nice and compact. Perfect for watching YouTube on the train and for playing games when I get to the hotel (with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse).

This docks been great for me. There are cheaper options for sure - even a USB C dongle will do the trick but I've had no issues with the dock itself and it's worked a treat plugged into my HDMI splitter for flicking between Deck, Switch and Mac.

Me too don't regret the purchase for a second

Good deal was very close to ordering yesterday. I went for the ivoler 6in1 at 35 quid though mostly due to the 2-4 week delivery on this. Heat though as this is worth the cash for the updates and charger.

Are there any 3rd party ones which have display port or is it just this?
  19. beccas100's avatar
Be mindful if you have a Philips hue tv.. we had one and it didn’t work on it. Worked fine on our Samsung tv but after much back and forth with steam we got no where and returned it. Ended up getting JSAUX dock which works much better and a lot cheaper.

Question for people, why does the deck only last around 3hrs on a charge? Did any of you change some of the settings to get more juice out of it? I love playing Prominence Poker and it sucks the life out of the deck. Any tips appreciated, please.

With what I’m playing on it, I’m lucky to get two hours. Three hours doesn’t sound bad. There are a number of guides on adjusting various settings to maximise performance and battery life.

I bought the Mokin 7 in 1 deck from Amazon for about £30 due to it having multi monitor support, displayport and HDMI. It works well.

I have this. Paid full price and yes it is expensive compared to others, but at this price, worth it.

How is this better than a 20£ of eBay?
It comes with an extra charger, I imagine that's a factor, but we usually don't need one.

    Build quality maybe?

I've got £60 0f steam vouchers, can I used them to buy this?
    Phil452's avatar
    sure
  25. Relievo's avatar
I had a mate selling £60 of steam vouchers for £40, so although I could have bought a 3rd party dock and saved the vouchers for games, I have a ton of bought games I’m yet to play, and £60-worth of games would take me a lifetime to play if all bought in a sale… so I opted for the official dock, essentially costing me £43.20

Do you think I made the right decision?
