UPDATE: I ordered it on Monday & received it today on Thursday! Nice surprise!
Steam Docking Station on sale, for anyone who was waiting for it to drop in price:
Dock FAQ What does Docking Station come with? The box comes with a Docking Station and power supply (same as the one we ship with Steam Deck).
Will it work with my monitor / TV / controller / random peripheral? We’ve done extensive testing and have confirmed compatibility with a wide range of displays and peripherals. That said, there are thousands of displays and accessories in the world, so there’s a chance we missed it. If Docking Station is not compatible with your setup, please let us know in the forums so we can add support.
Will using Docking Station increase the performance of Deck? No, the Station provides charging and connectivity, but no additional performance benefits.
I'm having some issues with my Docking Station, where can I get help? You can visit our Docking Station Support FAQ here, get in touch with Support here, or visit the Steam discussion forums here.
Will there ever be updates for the Dock? Just like the Steam Deck, there will be ongoing support and improvements; you may experience a firmware update out of the box. Performing this update is as simple as plugging your Steam Deck in and going through the installation wizard.
Can Docking Station be used without a power supply? Yes, Docking Station will function without a power supply, but the USB ports will have reduced throughput to conserve power due to the limited output power capabilities of the Steam Deck.
Can I use any USB-C dock with my Deck or do I need to get the official Docking Station? You can use any dock you like. The work we've done to make Steam Deck and Docking Station compatible extends to other third party hubs and docks.

I've never used the official dock so can't comment if it works differently to a third party one or not though. I have two minor gripes with my third party dock but neither is a showstopper. 1) you need to place the deck off centre in the dock to keep the rear vents clear 2) the ethernet connection is on the side not the back so cable management will be more messy if you use this port but I don't use it anyway.
Docking Station Compatible with Steam Deck, 6-in-1 Steam Deck Dock with HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz, Gigabit Ethernet, 3 USB-A 3.0 and Full Speed Charging USB-C Port Compatible with Valve Steam Deck-HB0603 amzn.eu/d/b…2YE
I've never had that problem..
Per other people's comments, the big downside is you cannot put it in *any* case. It fits incredible snugly. It's really for people who never take their deck out the house.
Also, I hate not being able to know whether the Steam Deck is charging just by looking at a LED. It was that difficult for Valve to put a light being green for fully loaded and yellow for charging? Any dock having this feature?
I have no desire to dock my Steam Deck, but if I did this would be the only one I’d get, if just for the continued firmware updates and support from Valve.
All worked great, no major issues.
Decided I wanted the 512 with the anti glare screen, the screen protector had wasn't cutting it for me. Bought a 512 SD from flea bay that had an official dock with it. This also worked with no issues!
Nota Bene: Both times I had the dock/s plugged into a hdmi switcher, specifically the LABGEAR HDS5K, into my TV. I have a whole bunch of stuff plugged in with my set up and I'm used to stuff not exactly working like I think it ought to, but SD is fine, both docks I've had even start up the game mode on my tv.
I sold on the official dock with my original 256 SD as I couldn't really justify keeping it as I don't need two docks. The extra official valve SD PSU was a massive bonus, the little usb c power cable has a really nice feel to it, and the deck sits nicely without blocking the rear vents. But overall and as I already had a dock at this point I sold it on.

TLDR: It looks like they worked with the Steam community to to spit out some decent accessories at amazing prices is a short space of time!
I just need stock to appear in the sale now!
It comes with an extra charger, I imagine that's a factor, but we usually don't need one.
Build quality maybe?
Do you think I made the right decision?
