For those asking if he's still in contract, it's literally impossible if he's paying that price. I can't think of a scenario how you possibly could be.

Unless he was paying more and agreed to lower to that price, but like i say, not possible.

Normally the path to take is ... threaten to leave. But you have to be strong!

At some point the act of leaving will involve a company's Retention Department. They'll ask, "why are you leaving?". Say "COST!!!".

Then see what they offer and weigh up if they are offering a good/bad deal for you. Only you can decide that though.

A while ago, I had the full VM TV/Phone/Broadband at special price of £89, this was due to go to over £100. So I stripped it back to just Broadband using this "threaten to leave" approach. Price £32. Although has gone up to £39 now.

If broadband is all you want then you should be able to get a decent speed for £30-£40.

Even BT @ £57 is probably more than any household would actually need.

If you only want BB Vodafone broadband is £24. Been with them for nigh on 5 years now. Brilliant service.

Both of those prices are ridiculous if you only want/need broadband.

If you are out of contract you can just request to leave Virgin, then wait for the outbound retentions sales team to call you. They offer the best deals, you should be able to get their fastest broadband on its own for way less than £57.

If you’re out of contract. Yes. Just call them up and give your 30 days notice to cancel. They’ll call you back a day or two later and you can negotiate a new deal with them. They have retentions deals for broadband only from £16 a month.

You may want to consider just doing the switch to BT however. You may find they are better - Their routers are much better than Virgin Media’s, and customer service is all UK based and much better to deal with for example.

Only managed to get down to £20 recently for 200mb bb. (edited)

Phone them up and request to Cancel, they will ask you why, tell them you been offered £40, they will try to offer you something but not as good as £57, just say "No" and cancel. Within a few days, you will be contacted by Retention Team who will offer a better price, haggle the price until you happy!

Are you still in contract? If so, you did agree to the price. You might be able to haggle a new contract with a different price. But it will be for a full period, not a revision of the current one. Otherwise you might need to consider buying yourself out

    What area are you in?
Look to a local supplier as many are now offering fibre to the house with 900 up and down for around £25 per month (edited)

Call, speak to retentions (thinking of leaving option) see what they offer. If you aren't happy with it, ask to cancel the service. During the cancellation cooldown? You should receive calls from them.

In a lot of places VM are the only ones to offer fast broadband. For me it's either 1Gbps from VM or 17Mbps from the rest and they are well aware of that fact. (edited)

If BT are charging £57 he will be able to get a lot faster than 17Mbps. (edited)

Not sure why you used the laughing emoji on my comment above.

You do know BT do 500Mbps for £33 per month, right?

    Not here they don't.

I've just nearly choked on my Heinz Minestrone soup when I seen how much you're paying
That price is absolutely shocking, nobody should be paying that much!
Just ring to cancel, I do it all the time, just he nice and polite on the phone, but firm at the same time

    You can afford Heinz soup?

That puts you in the same league as the OP! You are paying 3 times as much too!!!

If you're out of contract then phone them up to cancel and they'll likely give you a new price for everything you already have (phone, tv, broadband) at that point say to them you don't want phone or tv and ask how much that would minus off the new price they've just given you. Bare in mind there is a chance the retention team won't phone you.

If they don't give you a new price or you're not happy with it then put your cancellation through and be prepared to sign up elsewhere.
*If* retentions phone you, say the same as above and make your decision.

You are being ripped off by the most I've ever seen for virgin media

I have 150mbps bb, free weekend calls and line rental with vm for £16 per month. Never paid more than £20 per month.
