Imagine paying a shop to be able to shop there

Fuel is usually about 10p cheaper per liter. 50L tank = £5 saved every time. I fill up every two weeks, so fuel alone has saved me £125 over the last year, not including my partners car, and also not including how much cheaper everything in store is (edited)

Are non-members allowed in-store just to have a quick look?

Try to go with a friend if you just want to look around to see if it's worth joining

13.60 for membership essentially if you end up using the discounts

I don’t have a blue light card. How can I take advantage of this offer, I’d like to.

Get a job that entitles you to apply for a card

Costco is a rip off for the ordinary folk, its great for businesses.

The individual user will not make use of alot of the bulk buy items except not limited to: fruit, Water bottles, bread, bakery, cheese, cereals, tortilla wraps and some other random items, You won't be saving a great deal and even if you do, most savings will not always exceed the odd £33 paid for the membership. Even their bulk buy's of laundry/detergent, toilet rolls are not cheaper and can work out cheaper in normal shops. Don't be fooled by bulk buys as they are mostly not all cost effective on the purse.
Of course this is all determined based on individual shopping spends but still.
    jdbigguy's avatar
All that just to say, individuals won't benefit from this, or they will.
  6. itchyone's avatar
Try to not be fooled by the huge bulk packs of stuff. Individual members of the public won't be saving much if anything, take a little time to work out prices against what you'd get at supermarkets and you'll likely see no savings. That's not to say everything is bad, sometimes decent deals. Trade members stand to gain the most.
    jdbigguy's avatar
Thanks for that wisdom. I was only going to join if I could pay more for stuff than in other stores.

How strict are they on the new users only policy?

I last had membership about 5 years ago and used it twice but would give it another go.

Can you pay and collect with the online voucher? Do they add a delivery charge on top? (edited)

I’ve signed up three different times when a membership deal is on offer. Each time I’ve used the same details and have never been questioned.

I even admitted the last time that I had been an ex member, the women behind the customer services said ‘I didn’t hear that’ and turned a blind eye. Hope this helps! (edited)

Worth it for the big boxes of Hello Panda biscuits, hot dog + drink combo and pizza slices.

Fuel savings are good too I suppose

You can use the cafe without being a member..

Late to the Cosco "discussion". Used to have a card for the Glasgow store.
The final straw was the, at the time, "guaranteed 10p cheaper a litre" for fuel - it wasnt. It was 4p cheaper.
Slabs of 24 pepsi we got cheaper off Amazon, and, for the things we need, it wasnt much cheaper than if we shopped about. It also didnt sell Plenty kitchen roll.

It only ended up being cheaper for the bottled water, which wasnt enough to continue the membership (we dont bulk buy a lot of their items).

    But.....
In saying all that, their top end TV prices are ultra competative, and their 5 year warranty is industry leading.

If you purchase online do the vouchers get posted to you?
    addwal's avatar
Nope.. terms say ‘Not valid for online sign ups’

Depends if you will spend a lot. Of course the benefit is 2% off

    LeeTheRed96's avatar
No, there are strict competitor regulations.

You’ll be arrested if you ever set foot in a Waitrose.

These are the kind of deals that have made Costco one of the busiest shops around now. A stark contrast to maybe ten years ago whenever I used to attend it used to be relatively quite apart from weekends. Now even on weekdays it is as busy on most major supermarkets on weekends. I have attended weekdays and they have massive queues snaking back. There is barely anytime you can go now where it is not busy. This should show you how many people are willing to pay to shop there!
    always_hungry's avatar
That’s because of the hot dog and drink for £1.50 😬
  15. BiglyX's avatar
costco is dangerous, walk in and you're already -£50+ as you've filled your trolley up with tat you didn't intend to buy.
    Bonedome123's avatar
    100% true! 🍺
  16. deleted2664824's avatar
I found out recently that the majority of the profit that costco makes is from membership fees, not everything in the shop is the cheapest, but the deals that they do have can be cheaper than anywhere else because of the membership subsidy.

So basically it's like a borderline pyramid scheme where everyone wins. Pretty cool.

I don’t see Costco on the blue light card app anymore
  20. LoveHdukNotReally's avatar
I challenge you to go into costco, with a mindset to buy nothing and end up spending over £100. Failed this challenge so many times. Then the bonus kicker is the vat which you forgot to add in your head.

Go to the vendors that are at events. They don’t care, I assume they make some kind of commission. If they do ask what you do, just lie and say you work in finance. They shouldn’t question you or ask for proof.

As soon as you’ve paid, you’re in. You just go and get your card sorted at the desk at the warehouse.
  23. Vak's avatar
What if you signed up a month ago??

Time machine would come in handy here me thinks

Lots of crap that you never knew you needed!! It’s great trying to explain why you need it!
    KongDonkey's avatar
I bulk bought toilet roll and had 6 months worth. It had to be stored in the shed and mice ate through the outer bags and destroyed loads of it.
  25. AX31's avatar
Didn’t renew. Saved a fortune not buying crap there. I miss the pizza. Damn it!!
    Bonedome123's avatar
    I 100% agree.

The pizza in the cafe is truly excellent, but the fresh pizza in the chiller cabinets is unfortunately not the same level of quality as the cafe pizza (it’s definitely not the same pizza before someone says it is).
  26. COCORICK's avatar
You will make your £13.60 back on just x2 full tanks of diesel. Membership well worth it even if you only buy the fuel. 🔥
    timmyboy147's avatar
    At which forecourt’s, any?

My local Costco is over 100 miles away, but I am nhs. I am literally clueless about Costco except from hukd

Is it just for diesel? What discount? What about unleaded ? Cheers (edited)

HUKD Mods, please can you kindly add the is deal expires on 03/09/23?

(I’ve just checked the BLC site and it says this, just in case peeps thinks it’s not got an expiry date).

    Thanks in advance.

Can you use someone else’s blue light discount to get this?

Eg I once shared a code on here and in return the person said I could use anything on thier blue card. Just wondering
    kipster's avatar
No, the t & c's of the BLC state that codes should not be shared just like most affiliate schemes.
