Got it for £17, after trade-in discount plus £5 off for adding Visa card.

If you buy this with the account which already has fire stick then I believe you’ll get instant trade-in discount applied to your purchase. (edited)
    Phatboy's avatar
Did it work for you like that? There isn't even a trade-in option available for me.

Prime day tmw so maybe will be cheaper if You wait
    originalusername's avatar
Very doubtful, has only been £1 cheaper since it was released back in Sept 21. The price was bumped a month ago so they can claim its 42% off now.50545220-7KMGh.jpg (edited)

How does this compare to the older 3rd gen?
I have that one in one of my kitchen / dinning room tv and often play BBC Sounds off it when cooking. However for me it feels like it takes a while to load up from cold every time. Is this much faster?

Which cheap reliable lag free wireless game controllers work on this please anybody?as a means for cheap retroarch or equivalent gaming for things like Tekken street fighter mario kart etc please anybody. Thanks in advance for any help.
    muckilla's avatar
yeah controllers work fine. advise getting a otg splitter and external memory like a usb stick though for storing the games on as internal space is limited with these.

I'm struggling to find out what live TV channels you can watch. Does it have all channels... similar to freeview? E.g. can I watch BBC1, ITV1, Channel 5, etc and use channel up/down to browse through?
    UserRNaaamE's avatar
No, it wont be like your TV's Electronic Programme Guide EPG. Instead you will have to go into each app separately to view that channels live feed.

Amazon are trying to roll out a EPG like feature but at the moment its very limited and doesn't have any of the traditional channels (it has things like the red bull channel)

    Hope that helps

Guys, if I have the nvedia shield 4K, do I need this?
    Accy_Chap's avatar
I'd suggest selling the shield and buying one of these then you'll have a load of spare cash to spend on other goodies 🤑
  12. ladygadget's avatar
Probably a stupid question . But whats the benefit of these over having the app on your TV ?
    Saif_Anwar's avatar
If your talking about benefits over a smart TV then this is way smoother and faster compared to TV as the processor is better It also has more compatibility compared to TV. However that's usually it
  13. Sinan_Goekceoglu's avatar
    $25 on amazon.com it's not fair.
    gadgetcake's avatar
$25 PLUS taxes. Still cheaper, but not as much as you may think.
  14. Paul_f1's avatar
Mine arrived today, had the regular 4k stick before, this one does feel faster and seems to lag less, remember to unlock developer mode by clicking (my fire tv/about/ fire tv stick 4k max)seven times ,then you can sideload any apps from unknown sources ect (edited)

Those that got the additional 20% discount for trade-in, how did you get it to apply the additional 20% at the checkout? It is only showing £37.99 for me - £2.99 for the trade in. Would appreciate any help thanks.

Are you allowed to trade in any fire stick?
    Crossbow's avatar
1st or 2nd gen FT sticks via the trade-in link amazon.co.uk/l/2…031 - their valuation may seem low, but note that you're also getting the 20% off.
  18. FRESHHHH's avatar
Can you still sideload apps on this?
    Toon_army's avatar
    Yes Sir
  19. Bytheseashore's avatar
How do you trade in the older version? (purchased on Amazon)
    Crossbow's avatar
1st or 2nd gen FT sticks are eligible via the trade-in link amazon.co.uk/l/2…031 - their valuation may seem low, but note that you're also getting the 20% off.
Be aware, if you don't get the trade-in 20% taken off immediately at checkout, you'll probably miss it altogether as the price would have increased by the time you send it in & they get to inspect it, etc.

Can you watch live tv on this?
    Crossbow's avatar
Depends... what you watch & whether you have a valid TV Licence or not which.co.uk/rev…d24

Do I need a TV licence?
    Yes
    • You watch or record TV at the time it's broadcast ('live' TV) through Freeview, Freesat or a pay-TV service such as Sky. This includes all channels, not just BBC channels.
    • You need a licence regardless of whether you rent or own your home.
    • You use BBC iPlayer on any device, including smartphones, laptops and tablets.
    • You watch live TV on streaming apps, such as ITVX, All 4, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV.
    No
    • You exclusively use the catch-up services on apps such as ITVX and All 4.
    • You only watch TV-streaming services, such as Amazon Prime Video (if you watch live TV on Prime Video then you need a licence), Disney+ or Netflix, or YouTube videos.
    • You only use your TV to watch DVDs, Blu-rays or video cassettes.
    • You only use your TV to play video games.
    • If you're 75 or over and receive pension credit.

Anyone know if this will output a better picture quality for streaming 3pm football over the standard ones? I want to set it up ready for new season
    UnicornHunter's avatar
It'll only be as good as the source input. If the source input has 4K HDR then sure.
  22. karlarmstrong's avatar
Bought this recently and the audio to video sync is absolutely abysmal on multiple apps. Seems to be an issue with a lot of people with no apparent fix.
    johnraggett's avatar
Did you try disabling Dolby sound by going into settings - audio - PCM.

Had this issue on one of my TVs and this done the trick
  23. CorpJones's avatar
Tempted but waiting for a shield deal as need true atmos via Plex, think that's the only one that can handle it uncompressed
    b1g1an's avatar
You should've picked up the 3rd Gen Cube, was £88 with trade in, makes the Shield look expensive and old. Cube handles newer video codecs, passes through all HD-Audio, TrueHD / DTS MA etc etc, I believe handles Dolby Vision better and is better supported by official apps. It has proper USB and Ethernet port just the same.

Excellent bit of kit, I use Kodi instead of Plex, but same difference, and as it handles everything perfectly it has totally replaced my HTPC.
  24. sparkesrig's avatar
What's better this or the Roku Express 4k for £18.99
    Crossbow's avatar
This is better in some ways... like WiFi 6, picture-in-picture for camera feeds, overall faster performance & be able to sideload more apps & easier (sideload guide maketecheasier.com/sid…tv/). But is it worth over double the price?

The RE 4K also has some pretty neat features over this as follows... from versus.com/en/…-4k
    • Ad-free
    • Has Chromecast built-in
    • Has AirPlay
    • Has a headphone jack on remote control (This allows you to plug in headphones and use the device without disturbing others who are in the same room as you)
    • Compatible with Google Assistant

Came to £22 for me, 40% discount for some reason
    gadgetcake's avatar
20% off RRP rather than 20% off the current price

Then knock off the £2.99 trade in and you get to £22
  30. Kazbruh's avatar
Activated a trade in for my 1st gen fire stick to get £3 off and a 20% discount.

£22 for a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, nice!

I always think that Fire Sticks seem really speedy when you get them, but they get really slow really quick.. without adding that many apps to them. Even after a factory reset they never seem to get back to their original speed. Odd.
    Liam_D's avatar
I noticed that, too. It's as if they are overclocked for the first days/week or so then they grind to a halt.
  33. adebisi30's avatar
Is this the fastest and newest fire tv stick?
    Crossbow's avatar
    Yes it is.
  34. asl3312's avatar
Not a great deal tbh.. I paid £38.99 at the end of May for mine. So much for Prime Day.
  35. Th3.Ripper's avatar
This was cheaper in May, I bought it from Amazon for circa £32??
  36. OhTheMajesty's avatar
Been using one for a year and it has changed the way I consume content. Also love that I can play Luna through it, and connect my Sony XM4’s via Bluetooth. Great product
    ghostm4n's avatar
And that last bit there is the icing on the cake for me. Being able to connect earbuds to the firestick via bluetooth and listen to tv is great (edited)
  37. gerrykiddy's avatar
I didn't manage to get this last time with the 20% trade in because it went back up before they got my trade in stick. Lovely suprise that the 20% was still there and I got 40%. Nice one Amazon.
  38. Rum_Ham's avatar
Nice got it for £22 after that trade in discount
    L22EEW's avatar
Does the 20% discount show immediately after submitting the trade in? Or is that only approved once the old device is received back and inspected?
  39. RealGeek's avatar
Anybody know how to copy all
Apps and install content from one fire tv to another including side loaded content or app ? (edited)
    UnbearableBob's avatar
Would also like to know this. Asking for a friend, who's got a top notch set-up on an older firestick & would like to copy it all to this model without all the faff of setting it up from scratch.
