If using the HUKD app, save the deal and select the option to set a reminder for when the deal starts. (edited)

Do you need a subscription to play ESO?
    Stevie--G's avatar
Not technically but it helps. Otherwise it becomes an inventory management simulation. Although I got a system in place now and rely on the free ESO+ trial that they seem to do twice a year

Will this just be the base game, or include some of the expansions that have been released over the years?
    loftie's avatar
Should be the base game + morrowind, as i'm fairly sure they bundled the two in together pretty quickly. Won't include anything else.

Nice, until you see the download size!
    Kazloav's avatar
100 GB is nothing these days, ''MSFS 204 GB/ DCS 240GB/Star Citizen 89 GB/'' people should stop this nonsense about download size, its fine.

Interesting- MICROSOFT owns Elder Scrolls Online, which is GaaS (gaming as a service where suckers keep paying in some form to play, in this case via various forms of micro-transaction which are essential beyond a very basic experience).

So what's the deal between MS and Epic? This 'freebie' is tainted every which way. One wonder how the finances work- MS and Epic should be forced by law to reveal who gets what, since unlike a free single player game on Epic, there is a lot of scope for abuse here.
    screencut's avatar
You clearly haven't played ESO since you are completely wrong here. The "very basic experience" is actually quite a lot of content in which you don't even need to buy anything else to enjoy. Only when you want more content do you need to buy dlc or pay for the optional subscription.
It's an online game which brings out new content regularly, so of course there's going to be extra content that can be bought, or do you expect all this to be given for free?

Forced by law to reveal a business deal because it's an online game instead of a single-player one?

Sorry I'm being lazy, I'm sure I could find out from a review - is this suitable for a 12 year old? I think my son would quite enjoy an RPG like this but I don't know how gory it is and/or if there are sexual references etc (I've played the Witcher!)

I'm sure there are better options for kids but as this is good and free I thought I'd check !
    Kiyoharu_Taichirou's avatar
Personally I would say yes but, disable purchases and disable social aspects / chat / voice / ect, as they can be quite ... toxic at times.

Link to other peoples reviews based on age (edited)

I just checked my Epic Games launcher, and the free game from 4pm July 20th is showing as Murder By Numbers... is everyone else still seeing The Elder Scrolls Online?
    stedaman's avatar
yeh it only showed one game to start with, then 2 and now back to one, so might be a mistake and its for the week after, or its just buggy and both games are for next week.
  8. sdog's avatar
Got it last week on steam! Whoops! Finding the controls and UI confusing compared to Skyrim, but fun so far.
  9. TankDeal's avatar
Will never play it but why not its free.

Pleas someone explain how to obtain this game?need ro create and Epic Games account whatever? Can I buy it for free today without having to install it today and will keep the ownership regardless?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
Yep, just create an account and purchase for £0.00.
It'll be in your library no matter when you decide to install and play it.
You just need to install the Epic launcher when you do want to play any games on the platform. (edited)

I just always imagined this to be really, really bad.
    ossian's avatar
It's actually pretty good. Worth doing just for the main quest chain. It's got some great voice acting. There's a lot to enjoy in the game although the "open world" autoleveling system is a bit much in my opinion but the various dungeon types are fun.

Awesome I look forward to giving this a try.

I'm a massive Elder Scrolls fan and have played them exhaustively since Morrowind hooked me. Oblivion blew me away with its amazing story telling and lore so Skyrim was a no-brainer for me. There's just so much depth in the series and it's easy to get lost just browsing the storybooks and legends that you encounter along the way.

That said, I'm not a MMO kind of guy. At least I wasn't until I realised just how much time I've put into ESO. It's a different mechanic to Skyrim and one that I found a little jarring at first. It soon became second nature and I'm now frustrated by some of the relative simplicity that Skyrim has after all this time. Even the change in art style (which I found not as good as Skyrim initially) has me totally hooked.

Long story short, I'm playing every day and still loving the challenge - not feeling like a grind at all.
I've used eldorado dot gg to pick up each of the DLC bundles for a fraction of the list price, around 4 quid each which gives a staggering amount of gameplay. I own the hardback lore books from Skyrim and ESO which look marvellous and I'm loving Necrom with my LVL 562 champion characters in most class types. Needless to say I'm hooked and loving every minute.

What else would I be playing until ES6 in 2025?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
I agree, although technically you do have to 'grind' it just doesn't feel like it, much more fun that most other MMO's (not that I've played that many).

With Skyrim once modded it looks stunning, nothing else like it. (edited)

Never played ESO but have been on WoW since 2006.

Is ESO as toxic as WoW is for new players? (edited)
  24. Rou's avatar
    Has this vanished?
  25. jonagon's avatar
I researched this after seeing it earlier in the week. I've now cleared my calendar until 2026.

Is it more like GTA online than the original single player experience? Online play amounts to pay to win, pay to kill strangers. Guess I need to experience the base game before deciding to invest more.

Where do you find out so early, do you work for Epic or something, Hmmm?
    rapid111111's avatar
by reading the front page of epic next to the existing free game.
  27. rapid111111's avatar
Game seem to be changed to Murder by Numbers. Might need to expire this and redo.
    Frankie77's avatar
Murder By Numbers was always there. They have only removed ESO due to a technical difficulty, it's still meant to be free next week.

Once you download, a huge download, (lol). It will ask you to link your epic games to Elder Scrolls. Then it will go through the bethesda, elder scrolls actual installation. 20gb. Then it will say failed token, oops. I've started mine back up and it's downloading now.

oh dear, the launcher is downloading slow. 40MB/s. (edited)

The Elder Scrolls Online MMO is free from EPIC from today. I wonder it this includes all older DLCs such as Morrowind. The only DLC they offer for sale in the store is NECRON, which is the latest DLC.
