if departing Manchester, EasyJet have flights to Rome FCO

    Cold

I have done a simillar deal before and its best avoided.

    1) expect a 10-12 hour wait for the connecting flights in Rome.
    2) The wait will involve a long portion of the night 00:00 - 10:20
    3) In effect TWO days to get to Abu Dhabi and TWO days back = FOUR days of your time off work just gone in travel time.
    4) more likelihood of Flight delays and cancellations as multiple journeys involved
    5) Incompatible luggage allowances: Wizz air luggage policy extremely tight, cabin bag dont fit in cage expect a huge bill - more expensibve ticket for more luggage. Etihad is super genorous with standard allowance.
    6) Fatigue - expect to be tired!

its an ok deal for those not working or have time commitments.

Or for a less miserable outlook on life, enjoy a few days in Rome either side

Usual issue with these bargain basement flight deals, people get blinded by the cheap flight prices without checking the cost of accommodation.
There's potential to save far more money on your rooms than anything you save on the flights.
Please look for cheap rooms first before you book any flights.
If you can find a reasonable hotel for these dates, then the cheap flights are a bonus.

check airbnb, very good prices. £100 a night for 7 guests with a pool

Was about to jump on this then checked hotels . 4 star averaging £1200-£1500 for the 7 nights . I will give it a miss lol . Am now used to 5 star in phuket and krabi for £40-£50 a night .

3 star hotels in dubai are amazing

They hve pools and clean rooms

Try ROVE HOTEL stayed at the one in health care city for £70 a night

was just looking at MAN to FCO - not cheap flying in day before and flying in on day of Abu Dhabi flight not possible. Guess could come couple days early to Rome, a lot of hassle. Think Etihad sale to try bring more people into Abu Dhabi than Dubai. Much rather go DXB - lot more going on!

Something like this would work okay,~£95 one way to Abu Dhabi with 6 hours on a full service carrier is a great price, gives you a full day in Rome, doesn't matter that you fly into a different airport as you're just spending the day in Rome anyways

Having been to Abu Dhabi i would say it's worth 2-3 nights. But i would pair it with a longer stay in Dubai (90min bus) if possible.

I’d say 4-5 days in Abu Dhabi, there’s so many new things to do. Sealife opened recently so that makes 4 big attractions on Yas Island alone. Mangroves is kinda new, Corniche, Emirates Palace, Qasr al Wattan, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Saadiyat Beach (best white sandy beach), etc.

worked there for 2 years not a place to go on holiday i don't think it will be unbearably hot and humid outdoors even in Oct Sept and there aren't any beaches left all having been privatised unless you're willing to spend ridiculous
money on a hotel with its own beach and water will more like warm soup temp

This fare comes & goes, it’s been on FlyerTalk since at least Apr. At times similar prices have become available departing Vienna & Istanbul. Link to that forum talk on the fare might be of interest to some FlyerTalk Mileage Run FCO AUH

    Who goes holidays on Oct/Sep?
    BuckyBoy's avatar
Me, off to Orlando in October. Best time to go, cheaper, not so hot and not so busy in the theme parks.

    Win win win! (edited)

For anyone wondering about the difference between Dubai and Abu Dhabi - the people in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones, but the people in Abu Dhabi do.

Any other new / cheap routes we should be aware of?
    Jacinto_Fernandes's avatar
Wizz Air routes from central and eastern Europe to the middle east are one of the best bargains in aviation right now. More so if you want to connect to the rest of Asia from there. I'm aware it isn't a comfortable journey as you'd be taking 3 flights to reach your destination (south Asia and south east asia, etc) but you can save a couple hundred pounds. All depends on you and your value for saving money.

I’ve never done something like this before so just wondering how it would work

do I book from uk - rome and then rome - Abu Dhabi. Then the opposite back?
Also once I arrive in time do I leave the airport with luggage etc and then come back in again for my flight or do I remain inside (assuming my flights aren’t too far apart). Thank you in advance.

Also the prices are really high if I book London - rome - Abu Dhabi and back

can I book London - rome return and at the same time for the same dates Rome - Abu Dhabi return (it’s so much more affordable but I feel like it’s not allowed?) (edited)
    grandoldchap's avatar
you will not find a flight from UK to Rome in time to catch your outbound flight to Abu Dhabi, you.will need to travel the day before. You would not want to risk missing your connection due to some kind of delay. As its a separate booking you Will not get any refunds if you.miss connection.

If you do manage to arrive in time then yes you will need to come out and check in again for your next flight.

The FCO - AUH flight is exceptional value, but you have to be realistic what the cost of getting too and from FCO will cost you (note that the OP's example itinerary leaves you sat in Rome airport for all of 13th September).

The cheap Wizz air flights have very limited availability, so you will probably end up with someone like Easy Jet at typically £100 return + bags (say £150 in total). There are no early morning flights to Rome so fly the day before and either spend the night sat in the airport (not a great way to start a holiday) or pay about £100 for one of the airport hotels.

If you live in Rome then brilliant offer!
